For some reason, it's always been difficult to get passthrough working for anything other than standard DTS/Dolby digital sound. I've seen many different forum posts on the proper Kodi settings to get this working. I just built a new HTPC with a radeon 580 graphics card. No matter what settings I tried passthrough would not work. I then tried a geforce 1060 card and it worked without issue. I'm guessing that the problem was AMD's HD audio drivers. This may be a rare scenario for HTPC users (dedicated graphics card), but considering how much time I spent trying to get the radeon to work I wanted to let people know that yes the rumors are true - AMD drivers are terrible. Not trying to incite fanboy wars, but if you're deciding between the two go nvidia.
