v18 moviesets no posters displayed
#1
I've been using kodi for some time, have installed various releases. I'm now on the latest Leia release (v18.1). I have several computers, they share a database. ONE of those computers does not show any poster for the moviesets. The others display a poster from one of the movies in the set, which is what has always happened. I tried the movie set artwork automator add-on to see if that would bring up the posters. It ran, but then said that it found 0 artwork.

I'm perplexed as to why only this one computer shows no posters for the sets. (win7 pro 64 bit) It's not connected to the internet, it's set for local information only. So are the other computers that display normally.

Any ideas?

Nope. No idea. But...

Why not set up your library so you use correct Movie Set artwork instead of artwork from one of the movies in the collection?

Universal Movie Scraper supports scraping extended artwork... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2811881

Kodi is not yet set up to automatically handle local movie set artwork (coming in v19), but if you have local movie set artwork, then use Artwork Beef and a central "Movie Set Artwork" folder... https://rmrector.github.io/script.artwor...on-artwork

As for your original question, need to provide a Debug Log, but it might be something local on your machine and difficult to track down. Maybe converting to the above will fix it?

Thanks, it's always "just worked" and displayed something. The sets are just whatever kodi gives you. I've collated a few of my movies into sets myself, but most are just whatever has been scraped/internal to kodi. Some of the movies have additional items for set art, maybe that was fron Universal Movie scraper. I remember changing it once when things were missed from the movie database. I don't know, it was automagical, I didn't have to set anything up. I'd rather get it to go back to being automagical, but I'll look into what's required to set it up differently. There are a lot of "sets" created by the scraper that I don't really have the set for, maybe just one movie of. There are quite a few "sets" for movies I didn't even know had other movies in a series.

I'll check the log and see if it shows anything unusual.

There is a setting/media/videos/show movie sets - including sets that contain only one video (toggle that and one movie will not trigger the set) The image for a movie set is pulled from the first poster of the set (doesn't mean a sort, but the first poster of the scan), this can be changed manually, but Kodi doesn't support set artwork yet, so the new image preferance and placement is not saved on an export. Some things to look into.

That's the thing. For some reason, Kodi isn't doing that on that particular computer. I don't really care about the artwork so much as knowing what's behind the blank "poster". All that displays is the group of discs, no title, so you have to click on it to identify what it is.

Anyway, I've just nuked the whole video database because it wasn't co-operating and I managed to bork the whole thing, so no doubt it'll be days and days for it to rebuild and for me to refix all the things I've fixed before. sad face. sigh.

Thanks for the info, though.

It's all in the details. You might try setting up https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=258886 Artwork Beef is great for pulling in set art, you can always un-install it after it's done it's job but don't take the default set-up, limit the amount of images.

I didn't delete the database because of this, but because of issues with the database itself never "forgetting" anything and insisting on resurrecting old dead entries. "Cleaning" doesn't seem to work the way it used to. Now, if you change something, you have to directly delete things from the database instead of Kodi doing it.
I have set art (as in a poster from a movie), but it won't display on that computer. I'm not sure how other different images downloaded with artwork beef will display? Manually "choosing art" and pointing to a poster doesn't display it, so I'm not sure how pointing it to a different image will work?

Cleaning function has always been a bit miss-understood, most of us have exported met-data to their respective movie folders and as a consequence, a clean only happens in the library and (if you're used the Kodi delete video), the dead folder without a video remains with the artwork/extras etc. Compounding this is that smart playlists still holds onto the folder artwork (guess that's a cache clean needed) and shows up as the folder missing the videos (that's when I lose it). Manual deletions in the o/s doesn't clean the cache nor library, it's highly recommended to clean frequently and once in a blue moon use the Milhouse texture cache utility https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=158373 If you've not had a full house cleaning, = fresh install and full scrape with an overwrite of all presnt meta-data, might be time to dust it all off.

There's always the issue of gfx memory and the size of the artwork to load along with available resources. A proper debug log might help.

Sorry for not replying earlier, for some reason I'm not getting email notifications of new replies....

There has been some change in how the library works. Nothing seems to get deleted from the library any more. Once you've added something, even if it was a mistake, the library won't drop it. If you move something, it keeps the old path(s). Kodi also can't seem to differentiate between files with different, but similar, names. It used to have no trouble at all, now it "chucks a wobbly" and can't play the correct file if there's another similar file there.
