Is there a programatic way of setting "Volume amplification" for playing video?

I am working on a random movie trailer script. Many of the trailers from tmdb (youtube) are of wildly varying audio quality and volume (well, at least for the ancient movies I like). There is nothing more fun that playing some trailers in the background (while you cook ore clean house) with some whispering and others shouting. I know that "Volume Amplification" from OSDAudioSettings might be able to help a bit. But so far I have not figured out a way to manipulate the setting for a trailer started by Player.play().  I suppose that if all else fails I could resort to some sort of ffmpeg pre-processing or some such, but that gives me a bit of the willies.

For now I'll identify some candidate trailers and experiment with these settings to see what happens.
