Network issues on 18.x Leia

Thank you for the update on the status of the pull request. I don’t believe it made it into the 18.2 stable release as I tested the RC and found the issue still exists. I’ll keep a lookout for the next nightlies and 18.3 alpha/beta/rc builds to see if it makes it in. What’s the pull request details so I can check when it’s been committed?

@Memphiz Looks like your pull request for the network (3G/LTE) issue didn’t make it into the latest 18.3 release. Any update on the status of the pull request and if it’ll be available in the next release?

The issue still remains on 18.4 but I found a workaround for those that don't already know.

Just enable your hotspot on your cellular device...simple as that.

As soon as I did that all was well

Can you explain clearly how to replicate the exact issue. be very specific.

If you can do that, i can see if i can look into it.

The issue only occurs when an iPhone/iPad is only on a cellular connection (3G/LTE) and is not connected to a wifi connection (hotspot settings must be turned off also). Adding a source address in the file manager works but then when trying to review the source contents while in the file manager and/or attempting to install any files from the source by going to the install from zip file menu will cause an error message to be displayed as “Remote Share - Network is not connected”. I still have a copy of the test build file that @Memphiz generated that fixed the issue, let me know if you’ll need it or not. Let me know when if there’s any further information required. Thank you

Any addon repo source such as - https://github.com/kodinerds/repo/ when added will give you the error message after it’s been added in the file manager menu and you attempt to view the contents in the file manager or when attempting to install it via the install from zip file menu. Let me know if there’s anything further required. Thank you

Has any progress been made on this issue? I'm trying to stream video back to my own iOS devices via https basic authentication from an apache2 directory on Ubuntu 18.04. If I do it over wifi, I have no issues at all. If I try to stream over my cellular connection, I get the "Network is not connected" message. If I turn on the personal hotspot on my iOS devices and tether a device off of them, than I can stream via cellular, as I would expect.

I tested this error and it's present on iOS 10.3.3 and 12.4 on cellular. Using Kodi 18.5.

Was the PR that was mentioned earlier ever merged? This issue should be easy to reproduce.

A network PR based off memphizs branch was merged into master branch. It was a little too invasive to backport to v18, so I don't have any intention to do that sorry.

Feel free to try a v19 nightly to confirm if it fixes the issue or not though.

I tested using the kodi-20200201-bc3d65b4-master-ios64.deb nightly and indeed I was able to stream over my cellular connection from my https server. I did notice the connection took longer to establish than using the 18.5 hotspot work around. Not sure why. More importantly though, it seems the tracking started for the video before the stream started to play on my local device.

Using slightly newer iOS devices such as an iPhone 6s the video started only a second or two into the video tracking. Using an older 64-bit cellular iPad with only 1 GB ram, the issue was more pronounced. The video was about 15 seconds into the tracking before any video or audio displayed on the screen. I do not know if the issue is related to the merged PR or an issue with the nightly in general, as my wifi connection is stronger than cellular connection, and the tracking issue did not occur the same over my wifi connection.
