Solved Playback DVD from ext. drive
#1
Hi there!

I'm running Kodi v18.0 under LibreElec on a Raspberry 2. I plugged in an external DVD drive (needs a Y-cable to get enough power!).
I can play back old DVDs I mastered myself, but no commercial discs.
I don't have an MPEG-2 license for the Raspberry, but seeing as I can decode my own DVDs (CPU load of the 4 cores are only between 15% and 30%) I don't really seem to need it...

So, am I right in suspecting that my issue playing back commercial DVDs is related to CSS encryption?
What to do?

Thanks!

Provide a debug log and we might be able to see what the problem is... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2665079

As you already seem to be ripping your DVD's, why not save to mkv files without encryption? MakeMKV can do that.

Thanks for the quick reply, Karellen.

My issue has resolved itself. Sorry for the noise... Blush

When inserting a DVD, a menu appears to "Browse videos/music/pictures/files". When I wrote the OP, I had entered the "Browse videos" menu and tried playing one of the IFO files there, which didn't work (at least with the DVD I tried then). Now I realised that the DVD autostarts and shows its own menu - invisibly - in the background; I have to press Home/Backbutton on the remote to see it.
It was there all along... Smile

A possibility, of course, but I have to be conscious of the ever decreasing free space of my NAS. Smile

Thanks!
