Video Caching stops after a while on Nvidia Shield TV
#1
Hello,

I am having some issues streaming Videos from my centralized Plex server. The video starts fine but after a while it stops caching video and hence the video stops(stuck at buffering) playing. I am monitoring it using Shift + Ctrl + O key where it shows the Cache (forwardSmile on the top left. My specs of Nvidia Shield and network is as follows

- 3GB Memory/RAM on Nvidia Shield
- 1Gbps Downlink
- 500Mbps uplink
- Gigabit Ethernet switch with Cat6 cable
- Videos I am trying to play are about 15-20 GB
- Plex server is running on AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 32GB DDR3 and GTX 1070 gprahics card.

I have been checking my memory usage and I have about 1.4GB of free memory space all the time. So I am caching about 500mb of data upfront. Now the interesting part is once the movie stops caching and stuck, it never restart to buffer until I rewind/forward the movie... once I rewind/forward, it automatically starts caching again and within no time it fills up 500mb cache... It happens atleast 3-4 times during a movie.

My advance settings looks as follows

<advancedsettings>
 <cache>
  <buffermode>1</buffermode>
  <memorysize>524288000</memorysize>
  <readfactor>10</readfactor>
  <curlclienttimeout>10</curlclienttimeout>
  <curllowspeedtime>10</curllowspeedtime>
 </cache>
 <splash>false</splash>
</advancedsettings>

Any help would be really appreciated to fix this caching issue.

It's a problem with the latest Shield firmware:

Until there is official update, you can ask for the beta that solves it following these instructions:

Thank you very much from your response. From the post that you shared, it's seems like it's a Plex issue on Nvidia Shield. But my issue is not just related to Plex server. I have tried some other HTTP / Ftp sources directly and I see the same issue of buffering.

There are people also saying that the same thing happens using emby and also saying that if they use the same version of Kodi on other devices (PC, Android Box) in the same house / internet / files, it does not happen to them. So there is definitely something wrong with the firmware version of the shield.
