KODI's resolution only 1280x720, however Android's is 1920x1080 - MECOOL M8S Plus DVB
#1
Hi to all.
I have bought an android machine for KODI + DVB-T2 reception in Czech Repulic, Europe.
MECOOL M8S Plus DVB - T2 from gearbest.com
https://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_009920079212.html

I know, MECOOL makes even better machines, named KI Pro or KII Pro or KIII Pro, which are far better quality machines for 4K, etc.
But all I need is a good machine for Full HD, so this one should do well.
There is Android 7.1.2 with application / tuner for DVB-T2. It runs perfectly, the tuner is responsive and TV stations run perfectly (1920x1080, H.265 HEVC codec).

There is "Kodi 17.6" pre-installed under the name "TV Center". Unfortunately, in settings of this "TV Center - Kodi" is max. resolution 1280x720 60Hz and can not be changed. I do not understand why. In android settings itself, there is TV screen resolution set correctly to 1920x1080p 60Hz.
In addition, in this "TV Center - Kodi" version, InputStream Adaptive and RTMP Input are not included at all. For MPEG-DASH, so Youtube won't run better than 720p resolution.

So I have downloaded installation of Kodi 18.2 for android and installed it.
In Kodi addons - Video Player Inputstreams -  there is only RTMP Input.
Inputstream Adaptive is missing. Somehow I have managed to install it as well. So I could turn on the MPEG-DASH and YouTube is already playing 1080p videos.

My question is:
Is the 1280x720 resolution only the resolution of KODI's menu and interface?
And all 1920x1080 videos and YT videos are playing OK in 1080 resolution?
If yes, than this is not a problem at all.
I do not know, why it is so. My RPi3 with libreelec is shown in 1920x1080 and runs smoothly.

Thank you very much.

Well, the question I have not put exactly as wanted.
Will all 1920x1080 videos and also YT videos, be  played in 1080 resolution, even though the Kodi's menu resolution is only 1280x720 Huh
Thanx

I didn't get you. What do you want to post this question because you said in the second comment 'Well, the question I have not put exactly as wanted.' Make yourself be sure.

The question is:
Will all 1920x1080 videos (from hard drive, from USB flash disk, from YouTube plugin with MPEG-DASH enabled) be played in 1920x1080 resolution, even though Kodi's resolution is set to only 1280x720 Huh
Thank you.

Yes, they will be played at 1920x1080 resolution. Kodi resolution of 1280x720 is only for Kodi skin interface and not a limiting factor for video playback. At least it should be on (most) boxes.
Btw, why don't you choose 1920x1080 in Kodi Video settings, as that is default Kodi skin resolution ?

Edit: If you are asking about Kodi running in Android, then the default resolution of Kodi is set the same as the HDMI output set in Android. So, to get Kodi to run on 1920x1080 you first have to set HDMI output to that resolution in Android settings.

Sholander:
Thank you for your answer.
In Kodi video settings I can not choose 1920x1080, there is 1280x720 - it is gray and can not be changed.
In android 7.1.2 I have the resolution 1920x1080 60Hz and the same value is showing TV Samsung on HDMI1 port.

How is it in your boxes X96mini and Mecool KM8 ?
They are very similar...
I will put some pictures later on.

On X96 mini (Android 7.1.2) it is set to 1280x720 and cannot be changed.
Not sure about the situation on KM8 (Android 8.0) because I haven't spent more than a few hours using it's awful Android TV version. It's in my weekend house so cannot check it now.
With my KM8 and X96 mini I use ONLY CoreElec with Kodi 18.2 where I can choose any HDMI output resolution my TV supports. Not even sure if Android on them still works...
