Beelink GT-King

Beelink recently released a new tv-box, the Beelink GT-King.
The GT-King seems really interesting, if you look at the hardware it is the first tv-box using Amlogic S922X to hit the market.

Another aspect I think is equally interesting is that Beelink's has expressed their intention to open-source the tv-box by releasing a lot of information, including source code SDK. Beelink announcement (SDK link currently broken)

What consequences could come from making the tv-box open source?
I'm no expert but I would imagine that the possibilities to further develop and improve the tv-box would be extensive if it's open source.

Quote:Beelink have already been approached and have been unwilling to provide the necessary developer devices.

Beelink don't seem that interested in supporting CoreElec developers if this is anything to go by?  (AIUI CoreElec is the best solution for AMLogic stuff at the moment, unless Beelink and AMLogic are instead concentrating more on V4L mainstream support instead?)

What do you think about the new the Beelink GT-King?

It will be a snappy Android Pie device with good connectivity, but in reality these days without proper Google Android TV certifications, comprehensive DRM, legit Chromecasting certificates and Netflix device approval, it's likely to remain a niche player.

Those spending GT-1 King sort of money also would want auto Frame Rate matching for Kodi and also would want HD audio passthrough support. All of those features the NVIDIA Shield provides, the cheaper 2016 Mi Box as well.

Beelink, like other Chinese Android devices also rely on the goodwill of the devs. over on the Fresktab forums to provide Android Firnware support.

Also the following post in the already existing S922X ODROID N2 thread https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2856876
Details problems currently getting CoreELEC Kodi support for such new Chinese devices.
