Wanting to switch PVR software and want to know if XBMC fits me
#1
Hey guys. I've been running one HTPC app or another for over 10 years now. I've run Snapstream/BeyondTV, MythTv, GBPvr, Meedio, Orb and Media Portal. Currently I'm back to using BeyondTV for my TV recording and Meedio for my music and other streaming medias.

Yesterday I stumbled upon XBMC for Windows. Wow! I've always wanted to try XBMC but never had an XBOX to use it on. I was able to get it set up and usable in no time. Very nice.

My goal is to continue to use BeyondTV to record programs and I would like to view them in XBMC. Here's a list of questions I have to see if I will be able to get XBMC to integrate the way I need it to:

1) Can XBMC be interfaced with BeyondTV's database to get program names and descriptions? If not, how should I format the filenames so that an XBMC scraper can grab the information?

2) Can XBMC read comskip files for commercial skipping in the video player? If so, how does the player handle these files? Does it automatically skip the commercials when it hits a mark or do you have to do something to get it to jump ahead?

3) Is there a way to launch into the BeyondTV's live tv viewer from within XBMC or is there some other way that I can interface with my PVR150's in my HTPC?

I'm considering purchasing an XBOX to use on the bedroom tv. Does the XBOX have to be modded using the memory card install or hardware mod? Is there a way to use a ghosted hard drive image on the hard drive eliminating the memory card method? Also, I would need the XBOX to have a wireless connection. Can a usb network dongle be used?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

1. No (at least not yet). See the wiki for naming standard http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=TV_Shows_%28...Library%29
Most common today is http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=TV_Shows_%28...ng_TV_Show

2. Yes, again (always) see the wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=EDL_%28comme...er_support

3. No. Development have recently begun on MythTV and MediaPortal clients in XBMC, an API will open up more options for third-party developers futher once implemented, see:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=GSoC_-_Unified_PVR_Frontend
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=28918

4. Yes, the option is diabled by default but can be enabled from within the settings meny (in the GUI).

Xbox must be modded to install XBMC, (we do not deal with 'how-to' mod here, please refer to xbox-scene.com):
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=What_is_XBMC...XBMC_do.3F
Quote:XBMC does require a modded Xbox to run on or it will not function), (see modchip or software exploit/hack).
No, a USB dongle can not be used (there is no OS to install drivers in), use a bridge or better yet connect the Xbox directly to your wireless router/access-point with a network cable (and let other devices be wireless intead)
