Hardware decode of 8K Satellite channel on 28.2E Freesat
#1
Has anyone had success in hardware decode of the Astra 8K satellite channel? My system plays it like a slide show using cpu decode with Intel GPU and Kodi 18.3 and my AMD RX480 with VLC Nightly cant handle it either.

Codec Details are as follows:
Codec: MPEG-H Part2/HEVC
Video Resolution: 7680*4320
Frame Rate: 50.0
Colour Primaries: ITU-R BT.2020
Colour Transfer Function: Hybrid Log-Gamma
Bitrate is around 80Mbit

Guess that means only Nvidia supports 8K decode right now. Recentish AMD and Intel fail.

My nothing special i3 7th gen laptop was having a good go at playing it in MPC HC without me looking at optimising it.  I think 8K HEVC decode is not that unusual in current GPUs?

For info this is the full Media Info report on it (though I made the recording using ffmpeg from a network stream so the PIDs may be different). They are using a strange 1.0 centre-channel only audio stream - unless there is some odd-ball audio that is falling back to this?
