Seeing this info printed in the log, can someone advise if this needs to be looked into further, or is it an error that can be ignored? ( personally think it's something that needs looked into further, but wanting to know what others would think. I believe this is causing my kodi setup not to shutdown on command

Hi, I'm having a problem with this add-on that's leaving me stumped: whenever I install it, Kodi immediately crashes. Then when I try restarting Kodi, it crashes again shortly after loading the main screen.

I removed my user profile folder as Kodi was being unstable for a few months already anyway, in hopes of solving this issue, but as soon as I reinstalled Embuary Helper, Kodi crashed again. When I manually remove the add-on by removing the directory in ~/.kodi/addons, Kodi starts again. But Amber, the skin I'm using, won't load artist backgrounds without this add-on so I'd like to get it working.

I uploaded the crash log on the pastebin: https://paste.kodi.tv/opuzojakep.kodi
Not sure if it's any help, but here's also the regular debug log: https://paste.kodi.tv/uhifalavec.kodi

The above logs are from when I reinstalled the Embuary helper add-on again after manually removing its directory.

Oh, yes, the console output is as follows:

bash:
[:~] $ kodi --debug
Can't load /etc/samba/smb.conf - run testparm to debug it
Can't load /etc/samba/smb.conf - run testparm to debug it
Can't load /etc/samba/smb.conf - run testparm to debug it
/usr/bin/kodi: line 208: 108991 Segmentation fault      (core dumped) ${KODI_BINARY} $SAVED_ARGS
Crash report available at /home/steelbas/kodi_crashlog-20210306_201239.log

I suspect this is actually due to something else than the Embuary helper add-on, as the version this happens on (2.0.6) has been out for a while already and I didn't have problems earlier. I have no idea what it could be, though. Hopefully someone here can help me out.

No idea. There is nothing in the log. No problems here.

Well, it's nice to get some outside confirmation, at least. Well. No idea what I'll so, then. Stick to the default skin, I guess. Thanks for your time.

I'm having the exact same issue. Embuary Helper being installed causes my Kodi 19 to core dump via segmentation fault so quickly that there's nothing in the logs. Easiest way to get my system back & running is to delete the addon out of my ~/.kodi/addons/ directory. So long as the script isn't installed my Kodi remains stable. I didn't have this issue prior to Matrix.

E: Looking at your logs I notice we both run Arch... Perhaps it's with our particular package, hence why it's not being seen elsewhere.
E2: Looks like this is caused by Kodi not playing nice with the current release of Python. https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/19324 Non-rolling-release distributions are on 3.8.x while Arch is already at 3.9.2

Ah, I see! Hmm, so it's a matter of the Kodi devs catching up with the Python version. I hope that won't take too long, I'm running a very barebones Kodi system now, what with the Jellyfin add-on not working properly yet, too.

I don’t have high hopes that this’ll be fixed, since it looks like the problem is multifaceted & at the end of the day it looks like a core library does not support the functionality required, namely sub-interpreter support for numpy:

Quote:<stdin>:1: UserWarning: NumPy was imported from a Python sub-interpreter but NumPy does not properly support sub-interpreters. This will likely work for most users but might cause hard to track down issues or subtle bugs. A common user of the rare sub-interpreter feature is wsgi which also allows single-interpreter mode.
Improvements in the case of bugs are welcome, but is not on the NumPy roadmap, and full support may require significant effort to achieve.

Oh, guess I misinterpreted that discussion then. Hmm. Well, more people than us two must be affected by this, so I hope some kind of solution is forthcoming. There at least is some recent activity regarding the issue here: https://github.com/python-pillow/Pillow/issues/5320

I have been asked if I could open the info dialog for a specific movie or tv show from an onclick. I don’t think this is possible without using extendedinfo. Is this something you would consider adding to your script?

Here is my use case: In Amber, I use script.grab.fanart to grab random movie fanart or tv show fanart and show that as the background for a menu item, autoscrolling every x seconds. I provide the option of showing the title of the movie/tv show that is being shown. The request I received is if I could make that name clickable and open the info dialog for that movie or tv show. This as a way of answering the audience question of “what movie is that?”

script.grab.fanart does not provide me the DBID of the movie or tv show, but I guess even with my very limited knowledge of Python I could mod it to do that, unless you could provide me with a different idea.

So what do you think? Is this something that you think you would consider adding to your script?

Thanks for considering my request.

Regards,

Bart
Is their a property to provide the title of the random fanart?
