Is there a way to force grey scale output for black and white movies?

I have a grey scale setting on my TV, but I was wondering if KODI can do it.

Kodi software is not the issue, it's the hardware you connect to it... try the gradients pattern here with a browser on the TV https://www.eizo.be/monitor-test/

I have some black and white movies the have some color defects in them, I thought maybe KODI could de-saturate the video during playback. But I realized I should fix the file itself by using some video editing software. Thanks for your help and link.

Ok, there was an interesting feature offered by developers to enable colour control, most of us said it's better not to confuse users with another 'feature' that complicates, especially when most flat panels already have this built in, but this is one of those rare cases, where the feature might have been handy over operation of your displays controls. Just had a thought (more beer), VLC can do this in filters and effects, and best yet is that you can use VLC as an external player! External players (wiki) and https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=331381

Your point of view "using some video editing software." would probably be the best work-round for a permanent solution, but VLC out of the box is an interesting solution and having it available inside Kodi just for these problematic videos, is just another tool in the Kodi tool box.
