v18 18.3 keeps crashing on Win 10 x86
#1
Ive tryed back and forth too fix the problem. Crashed first on installing 18.3 from 17.6. Reinstalled 18.3 after uninstall with no luck. Reverted to 18.2 with the same outcome. Then reverted to 17.6 and everything works great.
Now im back on 18.3 too debug this.
It seems that on installation of vfs.rar (needed for 18.3) it became unstable. Going back to 17.6 it all works so I know where im going until this testing is done.
I do need the rar file suport as I got a large archive of media inn rar format.
Log file: Pastebin
I do have the crashlog also, but dont know if its wanted or where to upload...?

Thanks for the Pastebin, the crash log is not needed unless it's specifically asked for. Yes the issue is the rar archiver, did you try removing vfs and replacing it with 'Archive support' with Leia? At this point I suggest go with what works, and if that's 17.6 stick with it. Rar archives over time have had subtle changes, which have given developers issues making this work across all platforms and iterations of the archiver, not to mention dealing with new code. In this you're not alone, and quite a few are looking for a fix, and as noted Kodi is a work in progress. Best I can say is keeping abreast of this issue, and try Kodi 'Matrix' Alpha as various patches are offered.

Subsequent install attempts, make them portable mode so that you don't compromise your present installation. https://kodi.wiki/view/Windows_FAQ#Portable

[fast edit] previous installations, sometimes leave legacy issues. A re-insallation will only overwrite existing code, while a clean (as in portable mode) fresh start will address most non hardware issues. https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=314401

Over the horizon and long term solutions, exam usage of rar and consider alternate storage formats, it appears there is a slow swing away from this archive.
