After experimentation my conclusion agrees with DarrenHill and Karellen:
When a folder contain more than a hundred subfolders, it incrementally affects the processing time, which means,navigating to the folder from 'files' and returning to it from the information page of a newly scanned movie takes longer.
Kodi must have to check the folder in some way before it displays so if it has to check more files it takes longer. I guess...
