I have my Beatles - Abbey Road Blu-ray Audio ripped and converted to both Matroska Audio (mka) and Matroska Video (mkv) with lossless, untouched Atmos+TrueHD streams.

Both these skip constantly, Kodi (18.4 - LibreElec latest official release on NUC8i3BEH 8GB RAM, HDMI passthrough enabled, Dolby TrueHD AVR enabled) crashes on the mka file:

The MKV plays and crashes as well.

The Atmos track's bitrate is around 14,000kbps so I assume there's some sort of limit in Kodi. (I've not seen any Atmos files with that bitrate previously, mostly around 7000 max. Those play ok but with occasional skip, once every couple of songs for a microsecond).

BTW: I also read a post on www of same issue with Android Kodi (NVidia Shield)

I get same issue regardless of file location (NAS or local SSD).

EDIT: Both these files should just bitstream to my Denon AVR for Atmos decoding, just like all my other Atmos mka files that work correctly

The the Kodi Crash log for the MKV I see this:

Is this cache throttle rate too small for 14,000kbps file?

I tried playing same files with Kodi 18.4 on my Windows 10 Pro PC via HDMI to my AVR. Kodi crashes.

FYI:

I'm having what sounds like the same issue.  I'm on an Nvidia Shield running *Plex* into a Denon 4400.  The skipping / dropout pattern is the same every time.

I played it with Kodi: same pattern.

I played it with Kodi and the Plex plugin (why not?): same pattern.

I split the audio part out of the original mkv and tried again all ways: same pattern.

[That 'static' screen takes up ~24000kbps in that mkv (!)...  The audio part is 13500, as you say.]

For what it's worth this issue with this title seems to occur on more than one hardware platform, software environment and application.

I see this problem on Nvidia Shield TV (2017) with latest Kodi, MrMC, Plex and VLC as well as on PC Windows 10 with latest VLC.

It does play fine on PC Windows 10 with the native Movies & TV and Windows Media Player apps and with Cyberlink PowerDVD as well as the latest MPC-HC and MPC-BE.

Quick question: does seeking in the file cause Kodi to crash? It might take one or two attempts.

Hello, I was digging the internet to find this. It's happenning the same to me, I tried to play 3 different rips, mkv or m2ts formats of Abbey Road Blu Ray from two different laptops with VLC, Windows, Cyberlink powerDVD with HDMI passthrough to Denon AVR X-2500H and the Atmos track starts playing with few stutters in the beginning until it blocks. At first I thought it's because of HDMI 1.4 that both my laptops have, instead of HDMI 2.0 but all the other Atmos bluray files plays without problems.

Sounds like a solution for Windows users (add Potplayer as an external player).

Are there any external players that can be used with LibreElec or CoreElec that don't use ffmpeg?
