Looking for a good TV Box in 40$ range for streaming

Hello.

I am looking into buying an Android Box for my TV.  I have a Sony Bravia TV and when I bought it I wasn't focused on it being an Android TV - just wanted it to have YouTube and Netflix - and it does have that.

Recently I got some additional streaming platforms that are not on my TV and since I do not have an option to download additional apps I need a TV Box. I will only use the box to stream HBO-Go, our country's version of Netflix and Disney Plus - once it gets out.  When I started researching Android TV Boxes a I came across "KODI". Everyone was saying that you need a box that supports KODI so you can watch movies and series from anywhere on the net but sadly I did not find much on which devices do have it in my price range.

So if anyone could help me and suggest what is the best device for ~40$ that supports Google Play Apps & KODI (preferably with 4K streaming) that I can buy in Europe - so websites like https://www.amazon.de / https://www.gearbest.com and others alike.

Thanks for any help.

Copy protected video streaming, especially for the upcoming Disney App needs a Device with legit DRM and proper HDCP, and for Android it will very likely need to be Google Certified as well. That rules out virtually ALL the cheap junk found on virtually all websites.

The cheapest devices for that would be the Xiaomi Mi Box and the Amazon FireTV Stick 4K.

The 4K stick will be a snappier, faster device vs the Mi Box.

Hint: installing Alternate Android Apps stores like Aptoide or Fdroid gets you access to a wider selection of Apps, then you will likely need an air mouse and a seperate Rotstion App.

I was looking at Amazon Stick but if I understand correctly it does not have a Google Play Store meaning I can not download my "local Netflix equivalent" app.

Anyway Xiaomi Mi Box/Xiaomi Mi Box S has everything? Google Play, Kodi the should be able to stream Disney App once it comes out?

Be aware even legit Android TV devices do NOT have the full Monty Google Playstore like regular Android mobile/devices have.
They have a more limited selection of Apps designed specifically for use on a TV screen with a simple DPAD remote.

So that means unless there is a very specific Netflix "equivalent" App specifically designed for the Android TV OS such an App will need to be Sideloaded.

And then if it's a tablet/touchscreen App and additionally purchased Air Mouse will be needed to control such a touchscreen App properly.

You need to do some real careful research on a non Kodi forum that has an Android TV section like Reddit about this particular App.

Do not count on Kodi getting an Addon to stream Disney+ either. That is a pretty remote possibility at this point in time.
