I ave never heard that. I have had both and have never had any issues. I think that both of them will perform very similar in this regard.
the basic version of shield 2019 only runs with 32 bit. in connection with kodi, there could be disadvantages compared to the old shield (64 bit) in terms of performance when decoding in software or deinterlacing for live tv in software (yadifx2). are there any experiences?
how is it with android with amazon prime inside kodi? under windows all this is decoded in software, how is it with shield?
i have read on several websites that the deinterlacing quality of the shield should not be very good, e.g. in the nvidia forum or in the kodi forum

Maybe you confused that with it's upscaling ability? On the previous models it was a notch behind the competition. This has been remedied with the new model.

I haven't found a single issue with my 2019 Shield
EDIT: actually that's not true, there was a small bug with google location services that meant the iPlayer and some other apps kept randomly disappearing from the home menu.
The fix was to disable location services in the shield settings and all is well with the world again!

Well not totally because there are still some AI upscaling limitations, especially for those that watch broadcast interlaced TV:
2019 Nvidia Shield Ai upscaling settings (click)
But much better vs the non 2019 Shields

I really would investigate if people are confusing upscaling with deinterlacing...
Anyway, could not be kodi on the shield setted as autoresolution (with whitelist), so that shield handles deinterlacing and tv upscaling?
Setting in whitelist all above 30fps should let tv handle upscaling.. Or not?
If yes, this should solve bad upscaling when AI cannot be used...
Btw, no one asked nvidia if these limits on AI upscaling will be removed in future? I beleave this cannot be an HW limiy, but only software.

For Kodi, I used Lancsoz3-Optimized for 480/720p and bilinear for 1080p. On Apple TV 4K, I used Infused. The test pattern is from Spears & Munsil HD & UHD Benchmark discs.
1) 480p to UHD
2) 720p to UHD
3) 1080p to UHD
4) UHD (No upscaling)
5) 720p - AI different levels
6) 1080p - AI different levels

The surprise to me is how good the Ordroid N2 is at upscaling 1080p to 4k. I'd put it above the AppleTV 4k.
