Android Kodi 18.4 , all was working well and suddenly Update Library results in app freezing
#1
hi everyone

I have Kodi 18.2 running on Android box and all has been working well up until about 3-4 weeks ago. When I select update library, it goes right up to 57% and then just spins there, doesnt show any movie names and after about 60 seconds app freezes and shuts down and I get kicked out to homescreen.

my movies are on Windows PC with a share, I have not updated anything there at all, my windows updates are manual so it has to be Kodi or add ons.

I tried different scrapers for movies and TV Shows but no go. Also worth noting I have 4 Android boxes running Kodi and this happens on ALL of them (they are different models as well). I have Pihole running as my AD blocker through DNS but even turning that off does not make a difference.

interestingly, if I wipe the whole library, it works however, that takes 4-5 hours to complete so not practical to do that when I want to refresh the library.

any ideas ?

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

The instructions are here... debug log (wiki)

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.
4.Upload the log to Kodi Paste Site manually or use the Kodi Logfile Uploader. (wiki) With either method post the link to the log back here.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file (wiki)

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs
Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Use the Kodi Paste Site. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum

There is the Kodi Log Uploader add-on.
You can also use a decent Android file manager like X-Plore File Manager, and copy/paste/upload the kodi.log file manually.

If it hangs on the same filename again and again, it might have a filename problem there.

I had a play but got stuck exporting the file ... here is a screenshot though (took it couple weeks ago but essentially is same last entry when it freezes) :

I should also, add, I have 4 Android boxes, 3 different models, they all get stuck on same error and restart the application. its driving me crazy.

Please try the log uploader addon mentioned above. Screenshots like that are next to useless unfortunately.

another thought, I just realised, I installed raspberry with Pihole running for the whole network in the house couple months ago, would it be possible its blocking the content from being downloaded ?

EDIT: thats not it, changed the DNS to google DNS and its still not scanning, just gets stuck right away until KODI crashes

EDIT: do I need to run the update library again and wait for ti to crash and then upload another log ?

Yes, the log should cover the issue. If it's crashing, then you want to upload the previous log (kodi.old.log) after a reboot as that will be the relevant one. I think the addon gives you that option too.

The log basically starts at boot-up and continues until the next reboot/shutdown/crash. At that point the current log is renamed to kodi.old.log, and the previous old log is overwritten.

Also if possible it may be nice to enable debug logging (in Settings>System Settings>Logging) to gather more information, but if it takes a long time to crash the log may end up too large to upload.

See debug log (wiki) on the wiki for more details of the above.

As noted above (I guess we cross-posted) that log is from after the reboot. We need kodi.old.log which is the previous one and should hopefully include the crash itself.

Not really, the log file is so short it seems all Kodi does is boot up.

2019-10-27 07:52:39.719 T:24126 NOTICE: Disabled debug logging due to GUI setting. Level 0.

Enable debugging, restart Kodi, do a library update, and then try to provide the log file. If Kodi freezes then, restart/reboot and provide the now kodi.old.log file.
