Digital audio noise with passthrough
#1
Hi all, having great dramas getting AC3 to passthrough on my Kodi 17 setup.

Connections are Samsung 7.1 HDMI (ARC port) -> LG B8 TV HDMI (ARC port) -> Ubuntu box HDMI port.

In Uhuntu, Pulse audio is set to 2 channel stereo (as advised on other blogs/sites). Kodi is set to my HDMI audio device, passthrough ticked, and AC3 and all Dolby options ticked.

Then, when I play a movie after a few seconds of perfect audio, it pauses for a brief moment and just sends out really loud digital noise/static.

What am I missing here!?

Sorry, actually Kodi 18.4.

And it's a Samsung Soundbar HW-Q90R which should support every Dolby option under the sun.

You are missing your Debug Log

Isn't ALSA needed for Passthrough to work properly?  I remember having a similar issue until I suspended PulseAudio and started Kodi with Alsa support.  My HTPC is connected to a Yamaha CX-A5100 via HDMI.

No. Pulseaudio does EAC3, DD and DTS just fine. We also have internal patches for DTS-HD-HR already.

If it makes sense to have PA running, if you want passthrough, is another story though.

Ubuntu 19.04
x86_64
(install method manual)
System hardware: ASUS P8H670M mobo, Geforce 1030
TV: LG B8
Soundbar: Samsung HW-Q90R

HDMI audio connections: Ubuntu/Kodi box via Geforce HDMI port -> TV HDMI-1, then TV HDMI (ARC) -> Soundbar HDMI (ARC)

I have also tried this method https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=343813 in order to get passthrough but get no sound whatsoever.
