I am running Debian buster and Kodi 18.5 from deb-multimedia repository.

Which fonts am I supposed to install and/or configure to get rid of these ugly signs?

The Arial font tends to solve that problem. I haven't looked if it is available on Buster.

Thanks, it worked. I just had to in the UI settings and pick the Arial fonts option. Kind of weird that this isn't the default.

We just like the default font design better. And also not everyone needs the much more bloated Arial font file. Speed is everything.
