[Black screen issue] New Denon Avr suggestion
#1
Since libreelec my setup is affected by black screen issue on start/stop of a movie with adjust to refresh rate on

it's a well known problem with denon avr + intel box

A solution that works for 90% is to set gui at 30hz

I have a Denon X2000, could someone confirm with a more recent denon avr problem is solved ?

I had the issue with a Denon AVR-E400, but it's been working fine with a Denon AVR-X4400H.

My workaround on Intel with the Denon AVR-E400 was to edit the EDID to remove the 10-bit and 12-bit color modes, and force the custom EDID by a kernel parameter. The Intel driver negotiates the higher 12-bit color mode even though the source information in X11 is only 8-bit. I noticed the problem only when changing refresh rates with the higher bit rate required for the 12-bit color modes, or for 4K@30 Hz. Keeping it 1080p at 8-bit color or below, and I didn't have the problem.

I didn't have the problem with an integrated Nvidia GT520 GPU on an old Intel Atom Machine. That GPU only negotiated 8-bit color, and wouldn't do 4K which is probably why.

With the Denon AVR-X4400H, I haven't had to edit the EDID. It works fine with the newer Intel GPU.

Do you rembember which program you used to edit edid table ?

last time i used getedid command instead of old guide >https://wiki.libreelec.tv/custom_edid#tab__intel But i can't find anymore the firmware folder in libreelec where edid is stored

thank you for your suggestion

I read the standard and used a hex editor (xxd). See 331638.

So finally i tried

I report my experience for other people

Tried to edit with AW EDID Editor but the switch to 1.4 edid profile messed up other paramaters (video parameters) so I used Deltacast edid editor that have also an hex editor that auto fix checksum

I'm really frustrated

Ok it's a Denon hardware bug ( reclock problem chip )

But I can't solve it

Edited edin to support only 8bit

Tried other HDMI cable & combination

I continue to experience black screen issue on start stop

How can I check if I forced 8 bit if video card is negotiating correctly 8 bit

I see that other user refer to

drm:intel_hdmi_compute_config [i915]] picking bpc to 8 for HDMI

Where I can check it ?

When I will have money I will change this shit avr

ok drm debug activated and verified that bpc is set to 8

Code:
[drm:intel_hdmi_compute_config] picking 8 bpc for HDMI output (pipe bpp: 24)

never ending story

Ok update for community

Problem : with autoframerate switch I get black screen on start or stop of a film

Denon x2000 HDMI 1.4
Tv Panasonic vt60
HDMI cable expensive and tried other cable
Beebox Intel n3150 but I didn't remember if Chromebox had this problem

Read somewhere that the problem is an hardware bug of Denon

Solution tried:

Captured edid
Modify edid to force 8bit
Checked with dmseg that bpc was set to 8
Checked via avr that bpc is 8

Still have problem so cause is not waf compliant I set gui to 24 and leave autoframerate switch on

Probably not a good solution but is the best solution until I will change my avr
