Hi all,

Long-time XBMC/Kodi user (since xbmc on xbox), first time I haven't been able to solve a problem via search!  I have a few videos that when I play them, they play super fast for a second or two (sometimes less), then stop.  The audio starts and continues, and the interface is responsive, but the video is stuck at the same frame.  This is reproducible and only happens with a few videos.  I'm able to stop playback and return to the menu (either/both), and restarting the video causes the exact same outcome (stopping at the exact same frame).  The overlay indicates 0 dropped frames.

I've had these same videos for years, and they played fine before.  I was on libreelec 8.2 most recently (Kodi 17), and reverting to 8.2 fixes this issue.  All 9.x builds (Kodi 18) cause the same problem.  I thought it was my ancient NVidia GPU, but neither software rendering nor temporarily putting in a AMD Radeon 550 solves the issue.

Stats of a video that causes this:
Video: 4 min 3 sec, h264 mp4, 24.000 fps, 1920x1088
Audio: aac, 32 bit, 44.1 hz
Video is hosted on a Synology DS415+ NAS connected via 1-GbE through an unmanaged Trendnet switch, connected via SMB (SMB2 or SMB3 I believe)

I have tried other videos that are also h264 / 24fps / 1080p / aac / 32bit / 44.1hz that work perfectly.  I can't find a consistent way to predict which videos will do this.

Could you just for testing copy one of those affected videos to your local disk and retry?

I see an EOF in the logs, which means we stopped reading from file.

Thank you for the quick reply!  I copied the same file to the local drive, no change in behavior.  Also, I had turned back on hardware decode last night, so the log reflects that; I can turn it back off if helpful.

So I updated to Kodi 18.6 (Libreelec 9.2.1) again, deleted my .kodi folder, and attempted to play the video on a clean install, still the same problem:  https://paste.kodi.tv/vililodiku.kodi

Ah! Now it rings a bell. Does this happen for all dash files? You "bought" from Disney?

All the videos have the same source, basically a local backup of youtube videos so I'm not endlessly streaming them (data usage).  Although now that I look at the logs, maybe it's videos that were not properly assembled by the download plugin and were manually muxed with mp4box?  I'll experiment more.  Thank you!

Sorry for the double post, I couldn't figure out a way to edit my post above.

I tried two more files, maybe the issue is the encoder.  Both are DASH from youtube, the file encoded with mp4box fails whereas the file encoded with Lavf57 (dunno what that is) works fine.

Yes, that makes sense. Try to play them with the input stream adaptive. Sadly that means creating own strm files with a link to your local files.

The eof happens, when one dash segment changes / ends.

Ok, thank you! Should I report as an issue, either for Kodi or ffmpeg? These files played without issue in all prior versions of Kodi.
