Alpha TheShowDB - New TV Metadata site (development in progress)

OK 1st version is done, let me know what you think...

https://www.theshowdb.com/

Users can upload artwork and edit basic overviews at the moment, nothing more. No need to sign up for now, all uploads are under my username.

Already I have been working on new character art that is not available anywhere else Smile Check https://www.theshowdb.com/show/75340 as an example

EDIT: Also added actor headshot cutouts. Not sure if they are available anywhere else but I thought it made sense. See https://www.theshowdb.com/actor/38330-Wentworth_Miller

Same ID's as TVDB and TMDB, so hopefully nice and interchangeable.

You are fast. Smile It seems to be just starting to discuss the creation of a new base ... and here it’s ready.
Where's the character posters? I understand that they are few, but in new TV shows they are increasingly appearing.

It only took a couple of hours to build, and the database was already done so very easy.

I can Add character posters, personally I prefer the character clearart.

You can make the character posters as if in addition to the main one and change in the slideshow mode on the site. And if they are missing then the main poster hangs ...
This is so, I voiced my thoughts loudly. Smile Well, how can I get past - link.

Sorry to say I hate it, the colour scheme is shocking and the placement of graphics.

It makes me feel as if I am on the ocean on a rough sea, it makes me ill looking at it for a period of time.

Banner art, character art etc are a waste of time in my eyes, I would imagine that only a very small percentage of Kodi users actually use banner view or character views. Unless you are going to create similar artwork for every TV show in history, there will always be gaps and inconsistency.

It looks like you have gone into this with the strict purpose of making money, which makes me kind of nervous to be honest.

Despite my initial thoughts of one more could not hurt, but I just have a bad feeling about this. P.S Harrison Ford copied me, I am still seeking legal damages from Star Wars.

Just curious ... How's that?

The site is totally free, not sure where that's come from Wink EDIT: Oh the massive donate sign!! haha ok removed, that was just a copy and paste from the other sites, not important here.

Extra art is all about pushing the boundaries of Kodi skinners, I must admit though I don't know what types are really going to be useful.

Personally I use the WideThumb netflix style artwork and the HDClearart show artwork on the OSD in Kodi. I think seasonal artwork does have a place though.

Will try and tweak the clour scheme, i'm not convinced either.

- Actor page now shows TV Show history - https://www.theshowdb.com/actor/27737-Jorge_Garcia
- Improved Show page - https://www.theshowdb.com/show/79349-Dexter
- Changed the colour scheme slightly, still not 100% sure
- Simplified the front page to make it less congested as suggested

Currently running some scripts to match up IMDB and TMDB actor numbers so we can cross reference the sites easily.
It seems TheTVDB never had a unique ID for actors?

Really interesting developments and can see it being really useful if it takes off. TVDB and TMDB both have pros and cons - if one can be made with all the best bits then why not!

Really interesting, I will follow the development closely. Smile
What would really be interesting is a decentralized database, so everyone can run nodes, and ensure availability and redundancy.

What's your take on the poster dimensions? I see you suggested 1000 x 1426 like Fanart.tv while TMDB use 2:3 aspect ratio on their posters.
Before I preferred the 1000 x 1426 dimensions because it made it easier to adapt DVD covers into posters. In fact I was in favor of it when fanart first started their poster section.

Now that DVDs and all in general physical media is being phased out I've come to prefer the 2:3 poster aspect ratio that is the standard of way more sites. Not only TMDB.
Most Kodi skins, including the default Estuary, also use the 2:3 aspect ratio so creating a new site with artwork for Kodi with posters that doesnt fit seems a bit dumb.

@docwra Now that my site (kyradb) needs to be closed, would you be interested taking over the artwork?

I was thinking 680x1000

I'm not interested in the highest quality artwork, as other sites have that covered. Interesting thoughts on the aspect ratio

Sure I will need to take a look if you have some source data.

Saying that, I don't want it to become an Hi-Quality artwork only site. The aim is still to be a backup of TheTVDB and TheMovieDB.org with a nice, easy to use interface.

Wouldn't it be better to leave the poster section on tmdb and focus on what they don't have then? After all they got it pretty well covered.
