Linux Audio Bug- randomly no sound (LibreElec)
#1
Hi All,

This has been driving me nuts for months.

Randomly, when videos are opened from a "next episodes" widget, they will play with no sound.

I've tried:

- setting pass-through on and off
- setting sound output to "Best Match/Optimised/Fixed"
- setting different sources for the "Next Episode" widget
- setting sound keep-alive to "always" (and low volume noise enable)

First video play always seems to be fine. Then once the video is stopped, the next video might play fine.. in fact the next 3-4 might be fine. Other times, playing the 2nd video will play with no sound. Some times if the 2nd video is played after an idle of say 10min, it won't play with audio, other times it's fine. There's just no consistency with the behaviour.

A debug log that captures when the fault occurs: https://paste.kodi.tv/guqezapucu.kodi

It looks to start going downhill when it tries to initialise the device at:

2020-04-14 11:05:22.268

Full log here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Hm793a...WRLb-25lbg

Hardware: Intel NUC NUC5PPYH
OS: LibreElec 9.2.2
Receivers: Yamaha rx-v681 and rx-v483 (same symptom on both)

^the HDMI Audio device in Kodi doesn't get detected as the AVR itself, always the TV or Projector (Apparently normal Yamaha behaviour). Not sure if that contributes to the problem or not.

Any help to solve this one would really be appreciated.

Thank you,
Lindsay

Please always provide the full, uncut log file. It doesn't help when we don't have all the puzzle pieces.

The Kodi paste site said there was too many lines, hence why I linked the full log to the actual log file on my Google drive space as an alternative.

I'll see if the Ubuntu paste site accepts the full paste when I get back to my PC.

Well, either do use https://paste.ubuntu.com or simply the cut the log into smaller pieces.

I've now enabled full debug logging from startup, the logs are split in 3:

1.) https://paste.kodi.tv/mapivijexa.kodi
2.) https://paste.kodi.tv/pazicupiwa.kodi
3.) https://paste.kodi.tv/onozuquyoh.kodi

In this case, the 3rd file opened played with no audio.

The start of that can be seen from log 3.) at 2020-04-14 16:10:40.008

I culled ~15 000 lines that repeated over and over with lines like below (which happens when the video continues to play with no sound, but there's plenty in there to get the general idea of them):
Quote:2020-04-14 16:10:42.254 T:140064028927744 WARNING: ActiveAE - large audio sync error: 8186.676688

Thanks!

This is starting to point to an EDID issue on my end I think.

On one of the setups, I have added a simple HDMI splitter that I think is being a middle-man on the EDID handshake. It hasn't played up *yet*.

On the other setup I'll try using the LibreElec Edid script "getedid" to dump the EDID info to see if that makes a difference.

Workaround?

Do not buy Philips TVs in the first place?
Try a different HDMI port on the TV.

If you play something and then open the on-screen display, use the cogs icon to open the audio settings and check the volume there. Both volume and volume amplification should be set to 0.0db.

Also I presume there's no mute icon displaying on the screen (speaker with a line through it)?

Try a different HDMI port on the TV.
They are the only one with integrated Ambilight.
On the same HDMI Cable and Port a Wetek Play2 works without Problems with CE 9.2.7.

Years ago Philips was too dumb to receive 44.1 khz audio in combination with intel GPUs. If that's still the case the only way to fix it, is to set kodi's Audio to "Fixed" 2 channels and 48 khz.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
