Has anyone any experience with this using Kodi?
Was thinking of the PRO version, but seems its very very difficult to get hold on these days. Empty all over the place.

Very expensive device to run the crappy Android o/s. If you just need Kodi there are better options to buy something that runs CoreELEC rather than Android. If you need Android then yeah, this is probably the best out there, but Kodi on Android is not the best, even on the Shield.

Could you please elaborate more?  Why not run Android?

Android has all kinds of issues with broken firmware, manufacturers not adhering to Android MediaCodec guidelines, Audio passthrough limitations etc and just being a sub-par o/s in general. Also, I believe Kodi only has one active developer and as such there are several bugs/issues which are not likely to be fixed any time soon (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Even the Nvidia Shield now has a completely borked firmware after their latest update, described in the thread I linked to as 'a complete train-wreck' Smile

There are others on here with more knowledge than me, that's just my interpretation based on what I've read and my own past frustrating experiences with Android.

Please use the official Shield threads - there are at least 3 of them going already.
