MPO image decoder not working?
#1
I have installed the MPO image decoder on Leia 18.6. It installs well, mpo extension is supported but when opening an mpo file I get a black screen and then Kodi crashes.
The system is Windows 10 with two quadcore Xenon processors and 32 GB RAM, so I don't think it is a capacity problem.

Can you provide the mpo file so we can test.

Thanks.

Hi Karellen, thanks a lot for your prompt reply.
Looking more into it, it seems that this happens with 4:3 format pictures. It does not happen with 16:9 pictures.
This link is to a 4:3 one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bplgsuzh0mamuf...1.mpo?dl=0
This one is to a 16:9 one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kkon71o3rgcyx9...7.MPO?dl=0

Thanks. I can confirm that it crashes when viewing the 4:3 image.

@spiff is the add-on developer. Hopefully he will visit the forum soon and diagnose the issue.

Thanks for your answer, Spiff. I don't know Karellen's PC but mine is Windows. I've just tried again twice and it crashes. This is the last log: log.

I am using Windows 10 also. Could be a Windows only issue?

I’m also looking for a solution! Can’t get it to work on either Windows 10 or Raspberry Pi for any aspect ratio MPO. Really would love to see this working as I’ve also got thousands of MPOs and no good way to view them. Thanks!!

Sorry for necromancing an old thread, but this seems still unsolved. I’m running KODI 19.4 on an Amazon FireTV 4K stick, and the MPO image decoder 19.0.0.

When the MPO decoder is enabled, KODI shows a black screen and crashes, when it’s disabled, (mono) images are shown correctly. I even reduced the image sizes to fit into 1920x1080 (using Stereo Photo Maker), but to no avail.

Any solution in sight? Would love to watch my stereo photos again on my Samsung 3D TV!

Here are two sample images I took today (the SPM-reduced-size versions):

Image

Image

Both display fine in SPM and sView Stereoscopic Image Viewer, and also in mono when the MPO image decoder is disabled.

I’ve also added this to my advancedsettings.xml:

xml:

  <pictureextensions>
    <add>.mpo</add>
  </pictureextensions>

If it helps, the only incongruency I can find using exiftool is that both images show a difference between Exif Image Width/Height and Image Width/Height:

It fails for me too, in Android, Kodi 19.4 AND 20.  Thumbnails are fine, but MPO as SBS crashes every KODI every time.

There are a couple of apps that will work with MPO in Android, but they are not nearly as nice as the KODI picture viewer.  They are 3DSteroid and 3D Stereo Photo Viewer.  You have to setup as half-frame SBS, and setup the slide show one-by-one, but they work.

3D Stereo Photo Viewer claims to work with H4V (Hydrogen Red) files too, but I have not tried that.  H4V would be a good add-on to the Picture viewer.

BTW, I would PAY $$ PayPal to have someone fix this problem; it looks like it has been on the back burner for years...

It may well be that Fuji does not store identical length and width on each stereo image; that would not shock me.  Overlap of the image pair for stereo cannot be exact and stereo has all sorts of overlap issues by definition.  The real problem is that the decoder needs to be robust enough, or forgiving enough, not to crash KODI with the files Fuji generated.  I too have thousands of files and hundreds of videos taken with the S3.  The decoder will show previews, but then crashes when one is opened.  On mine, some are 16:9, and other 4:3, they both crash.  This on Android 7, on Windows 10, and on pretty much anything else, all quad core plus.  My 'fix' is to either convert to JPS SBS or to run 3DStereoid which works but has a clunky interface.  Again, I would be happy to throw $$ at this, but I know there are larger fish to fry.  This is not going to go away; H4V files will have similar problems.

It is worse than I thought.

I updated a drive from 10Tb to 14TB, and put all the MPO's in two folders.  Just entering the folder holding the MPO sub folders crashed KODI, repeatedly.  I had to move the MPO folders to another drive.  I uninstalled the MPO image decoder, put the folders back, and all is fine.

All I can think of there is some sort of 'preview' function that crashes if the folder has MPO's in it if the decoder is running.  I certainly would not expect a preview of MPO's, but the crash was repeated.  BTW, the MPO folders work fine with other software that understands what MPO's are.
