Big2Small - SAT>IP support
#1
Hi there,

for 10 years now I  was a happy user of a Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI adapter (not really supported by the kernel drivers and I have my own patch to make it work) that became unstable lately (it was about time, lasted already too long). In the last years I used this device with Tvheadend to stream my DVB channels to Kodi by using the pvr.hts add-on.

Now, there are not that many new USB DVB-S2 Tuners available that are supported by the Linux kernel drivers and I'm looking for an alternative. Found some cheap standalone STBs that use a Chinese "Ali" chip and provide a Big2Small streaming service. This Big2Small protocol looks to resemble the SAT>IP standard:
- some efforts to make a Big2Small client for on Windows
https://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads...ws.345481/
- the only Kodi thread related to SAT>IP I could find, not really concludent/helpful
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=156059
- the actual Sat-Ip standard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sat-IP

I'd be thankful if anyone could help me with some real solutions (tested), if any, for being able to play the Big2Small streams in Kodi.

P.S. This DVB-S2 Tuner is cheap, available and looks "supported", but reading through the LibreELEC threads and the issues they encounter there with the constant HW changes, I'm not really considering it:

Meanwhile I managed to repair the Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI adapter, changed the capacitors (2 x 470uF at 25V) on the LNB power supply (13/18V) part of the PCB.
Still looking for an alternative - Big2Small (SAT>IP) is still on the list.
