"Now my guess is that your Kodi app is running in sandboxed mode and your Kodi.log file is somewhere in one of the directory of this folder
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/...."...

I don't see any log file in this folder: /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/

Thank you very munch for the video!
Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce this issue on my iPhone with he same configuration...

Do you have a Mac in order to obtain the iOS log from Console app?
If you are are on Windows, I know that 3rd party tools exist in order to grab iOS log by I never used them?

If you can, post the full log on https://paste.kodi.tv while you open Kodi on notice the black screen.
Thank you.

Ok, this is two different tests in order to debug this issue.

Test 1:

First you can try to clear all entitlements with this command ldid -S /Applications/Kodi.app/Kodi and check if the black screen issue is still here.
I hope this command fix the black screen issue (but this lead to another issue because Kodi is now sandboxed...).

Test 2:

After test 1, please try this second test:
  1. Download this file https://we.tl/t-8UD11HbB2I from your iPad
  2. From Safari copy this file with Filza in /var/mobile/Documents/
  3. With Newterm run this command (no space after the -S): ldid -S/var/mobile/Documents/kodi.ent /Applications/Kodi.app/Kodi
  4. Check if you still have the black screen issue
By the end please tell me the result of test 1 and test 2.

Thank you for your help!

@pixelrogue feel free to try also if you can ;-)

Test1 video

Test2:

"From Safari copy this file with Filza in
/var/mobile/Documents/"

in Filza i can't find the file down from Safari

PS: Now Kodi on my Ipad air 2 work ok with me. Is it in sandbox? Is it ok for run the Kodi in sandbox?

I has found the file in Test 2.

Kodi on my device is  ok now,so if i run Test 2 ,can it crash again? If it can crash again and can't go back, i don't want run Test 2 Smile. But if can go back i will run it for u.

Thank you for your test!

I am reassured that the step of test 1 works!
As I said, with test 1 you put Kodi in "sandboxed mode", that mean that Kodi can not access /var/mobile folders and subfolder.
Read "Edit 12th November" of this thread for more details: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=358164 ;-)

Of course you can try test 2, if with test 2 Kodi just show a black screen then you only need to apply again step from test 1 and Kodi will works again in sandboxed mode ;-)

Also, while you are on it, please perform this steps if you can:
  1. Apply all steps of test 2 given above
  2. If Kodi works with test 2 then it's perfect!
  3. If not, please remove Kodi from your multitask list
  4. Plug your phone on your Mac
  5. On your Mac, open Console app (In Applications --> Utilities)
  6. Select your phone in the left sidebar (you should see the log messages of your phone)
  7. On your phone open Kodi
  8. On your Mac use CMD-A and CMD-C to copy all messages on your clipboard
  9. Go to https://paste.kodi.tv, paste messages
  10. Save by clicking en the floppy disk then paste the URL of the page here

Thank you!

Wow nice!! Thank you very munch for your help! By the way, your screen sharing video are perfect ;-)

Now that you applied the test 2 steps can you just check that Kodi runs in no-sandboxed mode:
  1. Apply steps of test 2 (already done in your case)
  2. Open Kodi
  3. Go to settings
  4. Go in system
  5. Go to Logging tab
  6. Enable "Enable debug logging"
  7. Check if the while "LOG" line in the front view is /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log
  8. After that you can disable "Enable debug logging"
Thank you!

Edit: No need to do step 3 to 10 because test 2 steps works ;-)
You lost your config because in no-sandboxed mode Kodi use another directory to store your UserData. You can restore your old config with Filza:
  1. Go to /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/Kodi/Library/Preferences
  2. Copy Kodi folder
  3. Go to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences
  4. Remove Kodi folder
  5. Paste Kodi folder from your clipboard
  6. Kill Kodi from your multitask and open it again

Exactly the result I expect! Thank you!

I packaged a new Kodi 18.9 deb file with the fix of "test 2".
Can I abuse again of your help for a last test (just to be sure).

Before I submit this new Kodi 18.9 package on Cydia I just want to be sure this version really fix the issue for iPadOS 14 users.

Can you perform this steps (you should not loose your current Kodi config):
  1. On your device, with Safari, download Kodi deb file from this URL: https://we.tl/t-o7BFCpIyPs
  2. Open this file with Filza and save it in /var/mobile/Documents/
  3. On Filza "touch" the org.xbmc.kodi-ios_18.9-3_iphoneos-arm64.deb to open it
  4. On the top right of your screen click on Install
  5. Wait until the last line is bash-5.0#
  6. Open Kodi
  7. Kodi should works AND log file should be /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/kodi.log like in your last test.
If it works as expected I will submit this file on Cydia for all users. Thank you!
