v18 NextPvr shows black screen crashes Kodi
#1
Hi,
The NextPVR add-on has star5ted acting up in Kodi (18.9) on me for no reason.
An attempt to play live or recorded TV results in a black screen with the Add-on control overlay visible.
Audio is working but the screen remains black.

I backup all Kodi settings once a month and carried out a restore back to December 1 2020.  This did not resolve the issue.
I then completely uninstalled Kodi and re-installed it.
I then tried to watch live TV. For a second i though it was going to work as the TV image flickered to the screen, only to crash Kodi

Viewing live TV and recordings  via the NextPvr application also installed on the same Windows 10 PC has no issues.

I can also play the raw TV files in the TV recording folder using VLC player so the files are not corrupt.

Here are the links to the Kodi  log files

Kodi Stack Tace

Any help appreciated.

It's not  a debug log so not much there to help us.  I do see this driver error in Kodi itself unrelated to the addon.  If it is new in 18.9 if you revert to 18.8 does it work?

I have uninstalled Kodi v8.19 and deleted any folders left named Kodi.
I then installed Kodi 8.18
The issue remains.
I notice a number of errors in the new log
Is the add-in trying to contact to some NextPVR services that it can't find ?
How about re-installing NextPVR ?

I don't think it has anything to do with NextPVR, those 404 errors are just no art common if you don't use Schedules Direct.  I see the same video errors in Kodi so it is mroe likely your video card drivers.

I wasn't having any issues playing movies directly from the drive using something like VLC.  I have a built in gpu as part of the cpu.
So i didn't think it was a graphics driver.
I uninstalled NextPRV and downloaded the latest one.  I didn't realise that version 5 had a web UI.
The issue remained so i went back to a version 4.
In the end I did a complete restore of my windows o/s to 3/12/2020
The issue has now resolved.
I am now looking at taking an image of my C drive so i can restore it back to a working copy with all NextPvr and Kodi working.

Thanks for the help.

Erick
This resolved my issue.

VLC is not Kodi.

V5 has an improved web UI but all the same clients work and it is much better with Kodi, especially with Matrix, and not sure why you would want to go back.

I wanted to go back to a version I knew had worked.
Now that everything is working I can also re-install it.

The original 4.x NextPVR tells me when a new version is available.
It has never asked me to  install version 5.
Until yesterday I didn't even now version 5 existed.

I tried to find a page that explains the differences between 4 and 5 but couldn't find anything.

I did however notice that there was no option to import a file with all the channels  saved in it (an XML file under version 4) in version 5
The help on version 5 said I should see an import button.
The only option I had was SCAN.  Even though the guided text stated that I could select IMPORT or SCAN
Not sure if it was some kind of java error it just wasn't there.

Backend questions should be on the NextPVR forum, this forum is for the Kodi client only.  From the client perspective in Leia the big change is the timeshifting works very well and is stable.  There are many more changes in Matrix and I am documenting that.

Although there was no direct upgrade since some tuner changes couldn't migrate since you are a Windows users (v5 is multiplatform) many non IPTV users could simply copy their database from one folder to another and continue as is.
