Kodi/EmbyCon/Embuary no video with HEVC encoded files

from where do you start the playback? from a widget? if yes, which one? does it make a difference if you start the playback from addons -> embycon?

The EmbyCon integration is a pita, because I use this addon as a API wrapper with my own calls. Changes to the API or EmbyCon can result in such scenarios.

@ saulfred

I usually start the playback off the home screen and from either 'next up' or 'in progress'.  I just tried going to addons -> embycon and selected an HEVC file and I get the same result.

Thanks!

And this is only with x265 encoded videos? And only in Embuary? Please double check.

Yes, that is correct.  If I use Estuary, with the same x265 files, they play fine.  If I switch over to Embuary, the x265 files do not play correctly.  I am in the process of building a new Pi 3B+ with the Emby addon to see if I see the same issue just to see if it is strictly the combo of EmbyCon and Embuary.  I will let you know as soon as I have the results.

Exact same result using Emby with Embuary.  I let it sit long enough (perhaps a minute) trying to play an HEVC file that it actually crashed Kodi and made it restart.

With Emby you mean Emby for Kodi instead of Embycon? Because I'm just using Emby for Kodi, but only with the native library sync.

Just tried a playback on Leia with EmbyCon (HDR HEVC movie). Plays fine?

Rasberry Pi, LibreELEC, Kodi specific issue maybe?

Then no idea. I have a lot of material in HEVC and I never ever faced that issue on the Shield, MiBox, PC or any other device I've tested. I do not manipulate any playback itself, just with widgets I do manipulate sometimes the playback starting process in a very limited way.
It must me something Pi or LE related. Especially if the common h264 content is working.

I have been trying different version combinations of LE and Embuary and the problem persists regardless.  Unless there are more debugs I can run to help investigate the RC, then it looks like I am out of luck using this skin with my hardware unfortunately.

I installed Kodi on my AFTV (holy cow, how much easier is it now with the Downloader app as opposed to the old ways of sideloading it, etc!?!)  and set up Embuary and everything runs exactly like it should. So it is definitely something wiith LE/Pi causing it.  I had switched back over to the Pi/Kodi setup because I found an issue with the native Emby client on AFTV where it wants to transcode all the mpeg4 files and the video quality, for lack of a better way of putting, is complete crap.  The Emby folks are looking at it, but don't know why it is doing it.

So this way I have a workaround to both issues for now! Smile
