Your TV only supports HDR10 and HLG not Dolby Vision.

Code:
HDR (HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE) COMPATIBILITY
Yes(HDR10, HLG)

That is weird. I have used dolby before with a external player provided here and it has worked. The tv ,shows dolby notification and in the picture menu it has dolby vision selected. Maybe it got it in a update or is it converting it to HDR ? But that would be weird since it actaully shows the notification and it has worked before.

I know in the tv specs it shows that it dosent support dolby. Which is why i was confused also.

If it didnt suporrt it at all wouldnt it just be green also. I dont remember the external player i used. But it was a custom made one provided in a comment here a year ago.

Edit: after search around looks like some sites do say it supports it and it was most likely added in a update. Let me know what i can provide to make this work.

EDIT2: I found the external player i used. Tried it again and now the Dolby Vision content is in black and white, i dunno what has changed since it used to work before. I ve had a software update since. The player i used was: My tv shows the notification that is on and in picture settings it shows db vision but the picture is black and white

You can check the system info in Kodi, it should display the supported HDR types at the bottom of the Video section.
Providing a debug log would also help.

EDIT 4: I have managed to get the Dolby working, What is the issue. Looks like Kodi messes up the TV screen HDR if you play Dolby Vision on it once while the TV is on. Meaning, if i boot up kodi and play DV content then close it, then setup config to use ExoPlayer, reboot Kodi and launch the video through Kodi playing on Exo Player it is in Black and White. This is really a weird one.

To fix this i have to restart my TV completely, boot kodi (ExoPlayer has already been setup) go to the video and play it VOILA, Video is in DV and COLOR ! played the other video COLOR ALSO NO ISSUES. Must mention i have 2 videos with DV and Kodi Internal Player plays one in Green Colors and the other in Black in White, so it is some Kodi software related issues the screws over with the TV Screen also.

So i can confirm 100% the tv supports DV and it played both files perfectly, unless previously played by kodi which screws it up.

I really hope this can be fixed so DV works in Kodi internal player. Been waiting for v20 for long time but unlucky i guess.

Here is the video and logs, hopefully this can help.

Video of the whole process unless you are confused, was  pausing to save time.

4K HD Proccessing

Logs (Those are logs of when KODI playes the file in Black & White even tho the TV shows DB Vision Notification):

Edit 5:
Welp this might be the issue then lol.

So you've been using Kodi v20 and not fandangos build from this thread? DV was added to Kodi v21.

Sorry don't know where to ask. Can v21 be installed as a 2nd instance on a ftv 4k stick? I don't usually do nightly's but can't wait to try dv Smile

Try supertoto's Kodifoo build from here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=371292
It will be installed as a separate app with it's own separate settings. It supports Dolby Vision and also happens to solve all audio/video issues!

Just make sure to get one of the builds where it says:
Supertoto1977's workaround Kodi 21 asof 2023-01-21 (based on Fritsch/Jogal's fix)
New application installation as org.xbmc.kodifoo21

Hi, can you send me link to the commit/merged code in kodi github source code for the DV fix?

It's not as simple as that, see - https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/22423

I am still using the following version without any problems:-

Build: 21.0-ALPHA1 (20.90.101)
Git: 20230122-8fc11baa9c
Compiled: 2023-01-23

Is the officially corrected version 20.x out on google play store?

Should I continue using build 21.0 as stipulated above?

From what I understand, built 21 is able to handle DV - Does this work effectively on the Shield 2017 model?

No, the Shield 2017 cannot output DV, you need the 2019 model for that.
