Kodi never "supported" the extrafanart directory in any way, nor does it now specifically support multiple fanart beyond full support of freely named artwork - as far as Kodi is concerned, 'fanart' and 'fanart1' are completely separate, just like 'fanart' and 'poster'. The extrafanart directory was a trick that skins could do (and still can), it's just a technical dead end. This way is more or less another trick, but it offers enough benefits for my time and effort, including a path toward future improvements.
Karellen started #7 with this sentence:
"Kodi stopped using the extrafanart folder from v18. ".
Maybe Karellen is willing to explain what he meant by that. To me it sounded like Kodi supported the extrafanart folder prior to version 18.
Just curious, why is the extrafanart folder a technical dead end? I don't understand what makes an extrafanart folder technical.
Concerning your other thoughts, especially about improvements in general. I think we don't share the same opinion. I'm an daily Kodi end user, but you're (also) a developer. Different perspectives will lead to different opinions. I think I speak for most end users when I say Artwork Beef's replacement by Artwork Dump is not an improvement but a setback. Please don't feel offended.
But I understand we have to deal with the changes (I've read your previous posts) and I know we have to accept the consequences.
