v19 Artwork Dump - download scraper provided artwork
#16
(2021-01-30, 20:59)rmrector Wrote: Kodi has not disabled anything. Kodi never "supported" the extrafanart directory in any way, nor does it now specifically support multiple fanart beyond full support of freely named artwork - as far as Kodi is concerned, 'fanart' and 'fanart1' are completely separate, just like 'fanart' and 'poster'. The extrafanart directory was a trick that skins could do (and still can), it's just a technical dead end. This way is more or less another trick, but it offers enough benefits for my time and effort, including a path toward future improvements.

Karellen started #7 with this sentence:
"Kodi stopped using the extrafanart folder from v18. ".

Maybe Karellen is willing to explain what he meant by that. To me it sounded like Kodi supported the extrafanart folder prior to version 18.

Just curious, why is the extrafanart folder a technical dead end? I don't understand what makes an extrafanart folder technical.

Concerning your other thoughts, especially about improvements in general. I think we don't share the same opinion. I'm an daily Kodi end user, but you're (also) a developer. Different perspectives will lead to different opinions. I think I speak for most end users when I say Artwork Beef's replacement by Artwork Dump is not an improvement but a setback. Please don't feel offended.

But I understand we have to deal with the changes (I've read your previous posts) and I know we have to accept the consequences.

What is it that you would like Artwork Dump to do instead?
I turned off Artwork Dump and changed my scraper to TVDB (new) and it seems to have fixed the issues as I now see all my artwork in Kodi without it cluttering the actual directories

It's a skin hack that barely works with a specific library setup, while the new style works across all library setups - yes it may work just fine for your library but you are not the only one here. Otherwise, this is all laid out in the page I linked to - feel free to read it, no charge.

For what it's worth you can keep the files there, but Kodi won't automatically scan them into the library like it does with properly named artwork, so you will have to find some other way to do so. The options are manually with the "Choose art" dialog, and JSON-RPC offers an API that anyone can use to make another tool.

A bit of lazy writing by me.

Yes, Kodi core does not support extranfanart, but there were add-ons and skins that supported it. There is no longer an add-on (artwork beef) that supports extrafanart, and most, if not all, skins have removed extrafanart also, therefore "Kodi" no longer supports extrafanart.

I visited the page you linked to. But since English is not my native language and some texts are rather technical, I have to read those texts a couple of times. Thanks for explaining in plain English.

Wow, nice way to be condescending.

I recently got Kodi 19 set up on my main system and I was quite sad to lose multiple fanart. I managed to squeeze a couple of JSON-RPC methods into Kodi 19 to get all of the artwork provided by scrapers, the remote artwork available in the "Choose art" dialog in the GUI - one of the few "library" details not already available to at least read via API. Remote interfaces can use it to provide similar functionality as the "Choose art" dialog, and a new version of AD will be able to use it to fill multiple fanart. Hurray.

Any chance to get AD to work with rar'ed up content like AB used to be able to do?

It seems the scraper is only scraping 1 fanart most of the time. How do I make it (or Kodi) scrape like 9 more fanarts for example?

You can't, and you have never been able to using Kodi core. Previously it was done with Artwork Beef and other addons.

Any dramas with running the addon on multiple instances of Kodi connected to the same database? I think I remember this wasn't recommended for Artwork Beef?

So multiple fanarts is no longer possible for Kodi 19?

Not automatically.

You need to download all the extra fanart manually and save it locally... before you scrape the movie.
