Linux LBRY add-on
#1
When clicking any menu item in the LBRY item("Followed Channels", "Watch Later" or "New") nothing loads except an error "Connection failed, API server unreachable."  This has been doing so ever since I installed this add-on.  All other Video add-ons working as should.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried putting  "https://api.lbry.tv/api/v1/proxy" in place of the default api setting as per https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?pid=3002740 but it did not work, and still get the same error after restarting kodi.

Just to see what would happen I then used "https://api.lbry.tv" without the rest in the URL and then I got a different error when clicking a menu item.  "LBRY error, Check the log for more information"

Well I guess I just found a work around.  I was trying on my HTPC but I also already had kodi on this laptop I'm typing on and the actuall LBRY app.  So I tried first with just kodi and same error as on the HTPC.  Then I started the LBRY desktop app, then retried LBRY add-on in kodi and this time results loaded.  So I guess I will download the desktop app for my HTPC and set it to launch on startup minimized

If there is a simpler way to do this I would still like that option if I don't have to install the LBRY desktop app on the other computer that would be great.

So where I'm at now it just trying to get the API server going without the need to install the LBRY desktop application in linux.  I'm following https://github.com/lbryio/lbry-sdk/blob/...INSTALL.md whcih says to just use the pre-built binaries in this case.  So that leads me here https://github.com/lbryio/lbry-sdk/releases to download lbrynet-linux.zip.  I do this then extract to a folder which is a single file "lbrynet".  After download and extract I follow https://github.com/lbryio/lbry-sdk/blob/.../README.md which says to run you type "lbrynet start".  I get in terminal, switch to the folder containing "lbrynet" and type "lbrynet start" then get "Command not found".  Would love to get this going.

The reason I do not want to install the full LBRY desktop application on my HTPC is I have it starting up with Steam and it is what I game on and I do not want too many full programs running.  I want it as minimal as possible which is why I'm trying now to just get the lbry api service going, without any luck as I posted in my last post.  If there is any other option as I posted earlier like changing the API url like "https://api.lbry.tv/api/v1/proxy" but with something instead that actually works that would be great as well.

LMAO you can't make this crap up.  I went ahead and installed the desktop LBRY app on my HTPC so that LBRY video add-on would work inside of kodi.  The desktop app after install and run automatically sets itself up to run in the background unless you uncheck the option, so I just ran it after install then closed it out, then everything was setup.  This way my HTPC would load up, load LBRY app minimized in the background, and autommatically launch Steam BPM as that is how I had it setup.  All would be perfect.  Let computer load, BPM starts, select kodi then LBRY add-on and be set.  Nope, not at all.  Before restarting my PC after installing the desktop LBRY app I noticed I needed some updates.  Well, I updated, then restarted my PC.  So all looks normal except when I go to launch Kodi I noticed the background was different, and it updated to v19 Matrix.  Then the LBRY app is no longer compatible, after spending time today trying to get it to work when it was compatible.  Hopefully there will be a compatible version soon.

It would be so nice if these companies that make desktop apps like LBRY would have an option in the app to switch to a 10 foot UI for use on a couch.  If that was the case I would just bypass kodi and use the desktop app & create a shortcut for it inside Steam.  But it is pretty much unusable with an Xbox remote, which is why I wanted it to work with Kodi, but oh well.  Pretty much the only real alternative to youtube and now it doesn't even work with Kodi.  And I refuse to use google products.

Interesting. I have been waiting, hoping for LBRY on Kodi. My solution is to just use the browser addon 'Play to Kodi'. It works well enough but a native Kodi addon would be great.

The Kodi addon from the official Kodi Leia repository works well for me, I'm on Raspberry PI's connected to TV's and also using it on Linux (Manjaro) desktop, after you download the addon you must go into the addon setting and save the API address   https://api.lbry.tv/api/v1/proxy  in place of the default.

I have removed the Kodi Youtube app altogether now, don't miss Youtube at all, finding LBRY is much better and more reliable.

Awesome! Thanks for this!
Is it possible somehow to add your current existing account or do you need to add channels all over again?
Can #tags be added?
Thanks.

There is no way to login and sync with your account yet, but you can follow you favorite channels, so at least we have a way to view LBRY and Odysee on the big screen for now.
