Kodi 19 (Matrix): Crash on Startup
#16
Decided to try out installing Trakt again now that Kodi is updated to version 19.1
Sadly, the issue still persists. After syncing with Trakt, Kodi crashes on startup.

I have removed TV Shows that purely rely on nfo files, since Trakt didn't deal well with them.
Some remaining TV Shows use nfo files for episodes.

Since so far I have no leads on what the issue is, I'm hereby posting 2 dmp files from the lastest two crashes on Kodi 19.1

File 1:
https://file.io/40zKygQ1Xr87

File 2:

Log File:
https://paste.kodi.tv/ciravocopu.kodi

Log File (Old):
https://paste.kodi.tv/ikidafiyec.kodi

Hope this helps in resolving the Trakt / Kodi issue.

Decided to use WinDbg to read the contents of the dmp files.
Sadly I don't really understand the contents, hence I'm copying them here:

Hopefully someone has a clue about what is happening with my Kodi Installation and Trakt plugin

You may be very unhappy to know that I'm getting the immediate crash on startup, but do not have the TrakT plugin installed

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

Installed the Test version from your link.
Installed Trakt
Synced Trakt

Kodi crashed on startup

Support for Add-on:Trakt (wiki) best handled in their support forums, we can not control 3rd party add-ons.

It was an outside shot, didn't think it would change much; would seem you have found the add-on at issue, would suggest the fix would have to come from Trakt.

Hey all, i have the same problem. From the beginning of using Matrix, it crashes at startup. I'm unable to find out why, but what i do, i use a third party program, that looks if Kodi is running, when it detects if it isn't, it's crashed, the program restarts Kodi again. Sometimes it takes 2 times, sometimes 3 or 4 times, but after some crashes suddenly Kodi keeps running. So now when ever we want to use Kodi, we just start the pc 10 minutes before we want to watch or listen something and let it crash several times, the third party program starts Kodi several times and there is a time it will keep running. I know its a not so good solution, but i'm sick of trying and finding the error that causes it, it's taking me so long to figure out, i'm unable to find any logical explanation for it. And my libraries are huge, so i just let it crash and restart until it works. Perhaps in the Nexus version it will be better :-( fingers crossed x

Should you get into the mood for a bit of help, please include a proper debug log (showing the exit) and a little background, some hardware info.

Disable update on start-up, you may find that Kodi is stumbling on one specific file. Your work-a-round is nothing I would tolerate, but each to their own.

P.S. start a new post with the issue.

Yes a log, but it crashes and there is nothing in the log that says why, it seems it has no time to write it into the log.
Update library is always disabled on startup.
(I do not have Trakt.)

Sorry, it was just a comment, i don't need help for this problem,  we learned to live with it. We just keep it crashing and it will start eventually.
It already took up lots of time and effort to solve it, it's just unsolvable. But thanks anyway, so i'll not be making a new post. I'll stop commenting also :-)

A proper debug log is quite extensive showing line by line operations, best handled with an advancedsettings.xml (wiki) flag. There will be a log as the file is created as it goes.

I know i would not comment anymore, haha, but here is a new thread : https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=363393
Maybe someone gets lucky and sees whats going on. Thanks in advance.

Hi i'm new in this Forum and i sadly have the same problem with my Version of Kodi...

I use Kodi 19.3 Matrix since it came out but since two days it keeps crashing on startup
I don't even have TrakT installed, just a visualizer from the official Kodi-Repo and i think the name was "GisMeteo Weather" if i'm correct...

All the Time everything worked just fine but all of a sudden Kodi decides to Crash on Startup without even letting me get to the Settings at all...

It  crashes as soon as the Kodi Matrix Splash Screen disappears, which is usually when the main menu fades in, but no, there's no main menu for me anymore, just a stupid crash over and over and over again
Even Re-Installing a fresh copy of Kodi as a Portable Version on an entirely different Drive resulted in Crashing on Startup (a version where no plugins are installed at all) and this is kinda shocking, tbh

i also tried upgrading it to version 19.4 but nope, it still keeps crashing...

in the Dump-File it said something about an "Access Violation" regarding to my Computer's RAM at 0x%p with the note "The operation %s could not be performed in memory." and i don't know what should be wrong with my System's RAM...

i mean, is it really normal for Kodi to say "oh, what a nice day to make my user suffer by crashing when he tries to start me up, mwahahahaaa"
It worked flawlessly for over an entire year now, suddenly decides to stop working at all from one day to the other, basically "over night"

UPDATE - I found a neat solution for the Problem almost instantaneous

If you go inside the Folder "C:\Users\(YourUsername)\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\addons"
you have to delete the Folder called "vfs.libarchive" (or just move it into any "non-Kodi-Related folder" on your PC using the classic CTRL-X CTRL-V method)
Then kodi should start up just fine again...

yes i know, i said that it keeps crashing a couple of seconds or minutes ago but i found this solution by just trying to delete whatever was based on WinDbg the Source of all the Crashes

but be warned, it can still happen again, even with the folder deleted...

My Matrix 19.1 started crashing yesterday and none of these suggestions worked, neither did upgrading to Matrix 19.4 but going into "C:\Users\(YourUsername)\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\addons" and deleting the last couple of plugins I had installed "plugin.video.xxxxxx" (x's being the plugin filename) did the trick. It might be worth looking at for those having the same issue.
