[GSOC 2021] Newbie Help on Achievements in RetroPlayer
#1
Hi,
I am Ashwin, A second year college student at Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology, Hyderabad, INDIA. I am keenly interested in KODI although I've never contributed to open source this is my first GSOC, any advice on how and where to begin contributions would be of great help.

The proposal on "Achievements in RetroPlayer" looks interesting but first I must be confident to do some basic contributions.
I am confident in C++ and Python, but willing to learn more as I learn this summer

Regards,
Ashwin Kumar Uppala

Hi Ashwin,
I am the backup mentor for the achievements, the first step is to compile Kodi, if you have done that, for this project it is also required to write some code to the game.libretro binary addon so you can try building that too (for development).
I suggest you build this https://github.com/garbear/xbmc branch because it has some features I added for last year's gsoc and it will come in handy for the achievements project. To build the game.libretro addon you can follow the instructions here https://github.com/garbear/game.libretro...developing (note in this branch I integrated the rcheevos library that it will be used for the achievements project).

Hello Ashwin,

Could you tell us a bit more about your experience so far? Any personal projects?

I would encourage you to start from the contributing guide on GitHub and try to compile Kodi for your preferred platform. Then I would highly suggest you check out the issues open on GitHub and have a go at one, it doesn't have to be big. When you're done with it, open a PR with your solution.

Hi gusandrianos,
I have confidence in few languages like C++, python, javascript but I'm rooting to learn even more .
I have made few personal projects, you can check them out at https://github.com/ashwinexe
This is my first Open source experience and GSOC is a good way to start I suppose, so I'll take my complete interest to contribute and learn along the way.
