left hand side: album title [Italics, red]
right hand side: artist [bold, blue] (year) [bold, green, with the brackets in white, regular]
(in square brackets are the formats of the respective labels)

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, in theory.

That's the tricky part. It's not possible to simply edit the existing code without causing colateral damage elsewhere, hence code sections would need to be added that only format the Album lisitngs.

Hence, the next question is: would you be willing to spend I don't even know how much of your time to prepare a respective modified xml file ("ready to download") containing the edits defined above?

Sorry but doing the first set of modifications for you to change the look of the Visualisation window was a one off to give you a template of how things can be changed. If you want to go further then I'm afraid you'll have to learn to do it yourself (I'm willing to provide pointers where I can) as I've other Kodi related things to be getting on with in my limited spare time.

Question
Hi, jjd-uk, thanks for your reply to my recent post.
Of course I do understand your point that you have other things and other Kodi related issues on your agenda as well.
Understandably, I'm nonetheless a bit disappointed to read your last lines.
However, I am truly grateful for all the kind help you've provided to me re the edits for the MusicVisualisation screen. Together with black_eagles help re the "track naming template" (see thread of this name in "Music support") I now have a really nice looking Kodi music "surface". That's why I thought it would be an attractive round-up to edit the WideList (album view) in a similar way, without having any clue that this is apparently far more complicated and time-consuming. Hence, I do apologise for putting you in such a position.
As stated before this whole WideList editing is obviously way out of my league and, unfortunately, my spare time is also limited and I can not really use it all up for learning how to "program" code lines with Linux ... I have to accept that.

Finally, I'm requesting your permission to ask all visitors of this thread, if somebody else is willing to spend some of his spare time for helping me out here. I'm sure that there are some viewers present with better previous knowledge in this area than me who really can make use of your precise and clear posts #88 and #89 to help me achieve the desired final product as defined in my post #90.
Any help with that from anyone would be greatly and honestly appreciated!

Hi jjd-uk, as I wasn't exactly inundated with feedback and replies from other viewers of this thread, I apparently need to start alternative routes to achieve the desired final product, as defined in my post #90.
Returning to precisely that post, I would like to pick up on your kind offer re your willingness to provide pointers, by asking you the following:
At the moment I've opted for "Interpret / year" as the sorting mode for my WideList (album view). As you know this label(s) is placed on the right hand side, on the left hand side there is just the album title.
Now, if I wanted to "move" the year (in brackets) - i.e. part of the sort mode label (... clearly, I would need to sort by "Interpret" afterwards) - to the left hand side to give album title (year), to then being able to format these two labels separatly (colours, style), how would you, on a purely theoretical level, try to resolve this query? Do you know (aka: Is there ...) a solution to this?
I would really appreciate your help and theoretical comments on that !

We should continue at this thread and stop posting at Kodinerds. There are better solutions from @jjd-uk provided in here. So there's really no need to work across different forums on the same topic.

I'll keep an eye over here as well, but I'll stop posting on that topic at Kodinerds. Topics should be kept together. Makes it easier for other users with similar requests Wink

Hi DaVu, let me continue my Kodinerds post at this stage.
As I explained to you elsewhere I've just stumbled across the app Kodi a couple of weeks ago. At that time and indeed now I've no clue about code lines and therelike, but as stated in my German post I want(ed) to introduce some changes to my Kodi's surface (skin). black_eagle and jjd-uk helped me a lot with two different queries and at some point I developed some interest in a third modification, re the WideList (album view).
jjd-uk has posted some surely valuable messages here, especially posts #88 and #89, but unfortunately, my prior knowledge in this context is by far to weak to make use of these posts. Hence, on the 23rd of this month I asked around, if somebody else within the audience of this forum (~ 3400 views !!) could help me with my query by building on jjd-uk's kind posts (as I myself am not able to do so). Unfortunately, despite the greatest possible politeness I didn't receive a single response within a week. Consequently, and as I'm still interested in the defined edits for my WideList, I moved to the Kodinerds forum, which at that time I didn't even know of, to try my luck there.
As stated before I do not find the time to learn how to "program" these code lines myself. In addition, would it make sense to do so (even if I'd be qualified for that), if I just need it for one more modification. I mean, all you "Kodi nerds" here are - as far as I've seen - specialised on a couple of threads within this forum. Nobody here feels responsible for each and every aspect and topic of this beautiful and immensely versatile piece of software. Are you expecting me and every other talented (or not so talented) user to learn how to read and write, generate and modify code lines (and all the rest ...) prior to using your app to play a couple of their favourite tracks? If you do, I think you should say so on your "front page".

Finally, and I'm sorry to say that, but I can't see any "foul play" on my part. On the contrary, as far as I understand this forum, and the Kodinerds forum as well (where precisely the following statement is taken from), this forum is meant to be a tool where newcomers (like me) get helpful answers to their questions from profoundly qualified other users (mentors). And unfortunately, the answers I got so far, and I do not in the slightest doubt their great usefulness, are not sufficient to help me achieve the desired modifications as described in my post #90.

In consequence of the above, after a week of waiting (and knowing that my thread here has "ended" without a result for me and also knowing that at that time nobody was/is working on my request in this forum) I opted for getting assistence on the Kodinerds forum. Today, all I did was trying to get the two loose ends together by asking jjd-uk for his help in applying his helpful posts #88 and #89, hoping that his answers would be of help for DaVu who kindly offered his help on the Kodinerds forum. What else can I do, if I can't conclude my request with the help I got up to now?

Nobody is expecting you to learn anything, but you seem to want people to constantly edit bits of code specifically for you and then get offended when nobody offers up their free time to fulfil your demands.

And as for you saying it should state on the front page that people can't use the app without learning to code, well that's just complete nonsense. If you want a specific setup then learn to do it yourself like everyone else has to do, or else just stick with the stock setup.

Hi FXB78, nice to hear from you again and thanks for your (somewhat unexpected) comment. Allow me to remind you that this thread has so far (according to the statistics given here) attracted 3389 views. Following up on your message, I do have to say that it feels good to hear from you that all these viewers are visiting this thread just to learn more about my personal "fate" and the codes specifically edited for me alone ...

I do not know why this question is discussed as long as long?
There were already enough tips and suggestions.

This thread should be moved to the forum category "Skinning".
There he fits better.

Hello OP,
I have looked this thread from time to time, but it seems like you want to do major skin work on music.  I encourage you to read the Kodi skinning manual in the wiki and in particular the parts on formatting label text.

There is a good subforum here for skin developers.  But, for best results I suggest making the effort to modify things yourself, then if you have problems provide a post showing what you tried and asking why it is not working as you need.  Many skilled skinners can provide tricks to work around limitations, but you need to make an effort first.

Just my thoughts

Hello Scott, thanks for giving your thoughts. Of course, to some extent I agree with your opinion. And after weeks of posting in this forum, please believe me that if I could provide you and others with a "personal draft" building on the suggestions obtained so far and demonstrating that I've moved towards my desired final version, I would have done so long, long ago.
But maybe you can understand my position as well: if you had a friend or relative who isn't particular computer "savvy" or isn't a software developer, and this friend tells you that he/she has found a beautiful music app that can be personalised in more or less every single detail, and he/she just wants to implement one more additional alteration, would you still advise him to work through a hundreds of pages thick wiki (with the search for "WideList" giving zero results) and a series of posts, both written by software specialists, to then maybe after quite a while being able to come up with a lousy, infantile and embarrassing draft, or wouldn't you agree that there could be an alternative approach to that ...
