Req Hardware Decode for Hi10p with the Firestick 4k
#1
So, as ve01x mentioned in this thread right here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3046355
Amazon added hardware support for Hi10p for the Firestick 4k, but unfortunately it only works on Plex so far.

Is it possible to also add hardware support for Hi10p to Kodi?
That would be awesome.

I might be wrong, but plex on firestick isn't decoding hi10p , the plex server doing the hard work and just streaming it to the firestick .?

I don't know much about, but I guess the Firestick still needs to decode it while Direct Playing. Execpt the codec or anything else is not supported, then the Plex Server transcodes it to a format that works fine.

It is indeed decoding hi10p client side with the latest version of the app. There is no transcoding and plex shows it as direct play. Copy pasting the information from my post in the other thread -

About hi10p - https://kodi.wiki/view/Archive:Hi10P, hardware support has been non-existent for a long time, making it impossible to play without a powerful cpu. But recently, there was a change on this page https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-t...ftvstick4k
Quote:H.264. Hardware accelerated up to 3840x2160p (4K) @ 60fps, 20 Mbps, High 10 Profile Level 5.2

Also, thanks to Luke M for testing it out and making a build here https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3046728 which seems to work fine.

Have you tried this build yet? However, it didn't work with the Plex4Kodi Add-on for me
