Special characters in episode name not scraping and then stopping scraping
#1
For various reasons I've had to rescan in some of my TV show library recently. In doing so I noticed that regardless whether I chose the TV shows at TMDB or the TVDB scraper I got the same problem. I first noticed it when I was trying to scrape in Peppa Pig for my kids.

I've got the first three seasons, but it would never scrape all of season 1 and then it just stopped, so none of season 2 or 3 were scraped in. Prior to me needing to rescrape this and other shows, all episodes were showing correctly.

I tried multiple times, but no success. Every time it just stated "No information found". Then I noted that the episode it was scraping up to and then stopping was one where the episode name had "Chloë" in it, with the special character "ë" in use rather than just an e. I removed that from the file name and tried again, but same result. I tried manually scraping the next episode after the one with the ë thinking that there was a problem with all Peppa Pig episodes from there, but that next episode went in fine. So I just deleted the episode with the ë completely from my library and then tried scraping again, and it scraped all the next episodes all the way up to the next episode which contained a special character in the episode name, and the same thing happened. It just stopped the scraping completely.

If I deleted the special character from the filename, it made no difference, if I deleted the file, it then scraped everything else. So it seems the problem is when the actual episode name that is being scraped, irrespective of the filename, has a special character in it, which for Peppa Pig episodes, happens every time an episode has the name Zoë or Chloë...

I think I'm now experiencing a similar issue with SpongeBob SquarePants episodes... but I got too tired last night trying to get all this done.

So basically, is there a workaround, or fix for scraping episodes that have an ë in the episode name?

Please provide a Debug Log which captures the issue as well as links to the two tv shows.

There is some work in this area for v20... https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/20309
But unsure why it is a problem now after so many years, and why not more people are reporting the issue.

Thanks for the response and I've got a debug log here:

I am running Kodi via the OSMC platform. I had previously cleaned my library, and noticed now that there were episodes of programs missing that should have been there. So it isn't just my kids TV shows that the issue is arising with.

This time it was for the TV show, The 100
TMDB link - https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/48866-the-100
TVDB link - https://thetvdb.com/series/the-100

The episode in question is Season 2, episode 11, titled - "Coup de Grâce" with that special character â

When taking the logs I did the following actions:
Enabled debug log
Rebooted
Went to the file location for The 100 Season 2, episode 11, which was the only episode from this series not in the library.
Selected scan to library on it. That failed as it came up with "no information found".
Ended debug logging.

I hope a solution is obvious to you as I'm at a loss!
Looking through my library now, I'm discovering loads of shows that have episodes with special characters in their name that are not being scanned, e.g. Shameless (US version) season 3, episode 1 amongst others...

Thanks.
