The wiki is world writeable. If you wish to update the documentation, then please ask for ninja status so that you can do so.

And I have no idea how it functions with respect to nfo files (assuming that is what you are using) particularly if you are using them for tvshows. If you add a show, then an update library should detect that the folder has changed (new files are present) and thus will scan them. How this works with tv shows with nfo files I have no idea. Feel free to start a new thread about whatever you think is not working as it should be. A Debug Log and so on is essential to be able to tell anything, ofcourse.

Thanks Sho, I believe we needed to know how the Library features are intended to work & it seems the wiki describes this OK, however it doesn't seem to work in practice. Now that we understand how it is supposed to work, we can advise where we are finding the failures with the updating of the Library.

We have nfo's created for both the TV show itself & the episodes. However none have the tag <episodeguide> nor could I find a reference to it here...

After some big discussions HERE, ive decided a new thread is best.

@ the wiki, we are told:

If its the same problem I have I think you will find it adds new Movies fine, but won't add new TV Episodes.

Do you know which thread Sho as I've gone through pages of Kraqh3ds posts and can't find anything relating to this.

Not being arsey here but why hasn't this been fixed? I think its a fairly crucial part of HTPC software to easily add anything new. At the moment adding any TV is a pain if the butt!

If you go to Add Source and choose Windows Network (SMB) do you get an error message? I also have that known bug and I'm wondering if they could be related.

HexusOdy: Make a reproducible test case existing of:

1. A dummy filesystem for us to do an initial scan on.
2. The additional files to add to said filesystem after initial scan.
3. Exact steps to reproduce the problem using 1 and 2.

If we have a reproducible testcase, then we can ensure that it's working (and continues to work later) as it should.

Without said test case, we aren't going to touch it.

I will do JMarshall. I'm out toorrow but will do it on Friday.

If I was to take a wild guess my instinct would be that its something to do with .tbn's and .nfo's. And Media Companion that I use for them.

Since I upgraded to the latest version its rescanned all my files, although only picking up new ones. But thatsthe only thing thats changed, all worked fine last week for example.

I have a seperate install of XBMC on another machine that uses the same share folders for Media and that machine has developed the same problem.

The only thing I can think of that they have in common is the shares. They don't even use the same version, one is running Beta 2 and the other the latest compile of SVN.

Unfortunately not, I just remember him describing a similar case and how he circumvented the problem by forcing a hash change of the affected directory (I think either by adding a dummy file or renaming an existing file).

Does "Update Library" manually via context menu do anything?
How about Scan for new content?

(remember you can back up your library by backing up the db file and always be able to return to where you started from by restoring it)

HI Sho,

I tried that. I backup up my old Video DB and started fresh. Using the same sources.xml I rescanned the entire DB but then library mode would not work at all which I guess is the same problem. I could see everything in file mode but it wouldn't show anything in Library.

Which again brings me back to it being something in the shares.

I can't start from scratch with new Sources because I also have the annoying bug where I've added all my SMB shares and it still sees them but when I try to add new ones I get an error message. It can't be a firewall issue because the shares I'm trying to add are in the same place its streaming video from it can still play. All in WORKGROUP.

The problem could be related, it it won't see new shares maybe it won't scan in new files. Even though I can see them in file mode.

I should add niether Scan for New Content or Update Library work. Although both seem to work fine for Movies. Movies are on a different drive to my TV but TV is split into 2 drives covering A-M and N-Z so it can't be a single drive issue. Both the TV drives are external USB's and Movies are on an internal drive but as I say both worked fine until recently.

Its just working fine in XBMC for Linux (r15983).

I've created the given files (avi + nfo) as shown in your examples and selected "update library". Startup scan and manual "scan for new content" will fetch them also. Just to be sure, you've set content on your TV folder and selected TheTVDB scraper without checking "Folder contains a single tvshow" ?
