TV Shows, Season is a year, naming of files?
#1
Hi,

For some TV shows, thetvdb reports seasons as years, and not as numbers.
How should I name the files?

Example:
TV Show: "Tatort"
Season: 1997
Episode: 5

Can I name the file as:
S1997E07.mkv ?

Thanks, Markus

If in doubt, go to the website front-end for the scraper source and look there.

For your example -
Show - https://thetvdb.com/series/tatort
1997 season - https://thetvdb.com/series/tatort/seasons/official/1997
Episode 5 of season 1997 - https://thetvdb.com/series/tatort/episodes/391495

You can see there lists of all the available seasons and the season/episode/title for each episode, plus any specials (usually S00Exxx).

You could name it S1997E07, but it might be better as S1997E05, as you were talking about episode 5 originally Wink

This means, the correct naming depends on the scraper (database) I use (?).
For another scraper (database) not using years as season name I have to name the same file as something like

S12E07.mkv

(If the other database uses number 12 for this season)?

Yes. TVDB sometimes uses the Year as the season. TMDB never does this. So if you swap scrapers, you need to adjust season numbering.
thankfully it affects only a minimal number of shows.

All the scraper is doing is using the file name to match it up to the database entry, which is where the metadata comes from.

So if the names don't match, then it won't locate the file and so the metadata properly.
