Solved Fanart for Home Screen Menu - blackscreen in between art.
#1
Hi there. I'm getting black screens in between the fanart background now on the home menu for Music.

I recently moved Kodi to another computer by installing the same Matrix version, and copying over the Kodi file. The current computer has "user" instead of my name: C:\Users\User

Could that be a problem? I did make sure any references to the old link were updated to the new user location. But perhaps there is a config file in Kodi that needs also to be updated?

Any ideas, would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

I should also add, I'm using 19.3 Kodi and Rapier 12.3.5

If I try to update the Rapier skin to 12.3.9 the Music menus disappear completely!

So, something is wonky here.

I have a log if that helps. It's after I tried using the 12.3.9 Rapier skin.

Not really. What was the previous computer you ran Kodi on? As long as Rapier doesn't use any binary modules, things should be fine. Can you provide a screenshot of what you are experiencing?

Kodi config files do not refer to any OS users AFAIK. Only possibly video/audio sources, but skins not so much.

Black screen in the home menu means missing fanart images or wrong/missing database entries for your music library.
Much like we talked about in this thread: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3074434

You probably also see black fanart backgrounds in your music artist library for some artists.

Did you copy over your userdata folder as well?

Hi Gade. Yes, I already went methodically through every folder and made sure there was fanart for every artist. But since switching to another computer, I now get the black screen between artist images. I used to get the default pic, but it's just a black screen now. And, yea, I copied over the whole Kodi folder, so that would have included the userdata, right?

So if it's a database problem, where do I look?

Edit: I should add, that I also do see that default Kodi pic along with a black screen in between artist fanart on the main menu. I double checked, and all my artist folders have fanart, nothing is missing there.

Also, since moving Kodi to a new computer, the only difference was the name of the user in Windows. Instead of "Pete" the user folder is now named "User" - so I'm wondering if there are some config files in Kodi I need to update because of this? Could this be the problem?

So I'm still trying to understand where Kodi is generating the music fanart images from. There is an option for "select music library path for clear logos" which I have set to an "artists folder" which is where I want also the fanart to be generated from, but it doesn't appear that is the case.

Where are the fanart images actually stored and generated from? And can I change the location of that folder?

Ahh! So, what I did was choose "multi image" for my background in music and video, and I dumped all the images into a folder and directed Kodi to it. That works perfectly now. The "fanart" selection just wasn't working very well. No more black screens.

Another update here. The multi-image option worked for the "Music" menu, but for "Videos" menu, choosing the same option and path for the photos doesn't work. I only get the default image there.

I can't figure that one out. Makes no sense to me. If anyone has any idea why that would happen. Please let me know.

The "Video" menu item is a customized one because I only wanted music videos to show up under this menu, and the default one I couldn't make that work. So, since I created the custom menu item, is there a way to also select the music fanart for that menu? I only see the default menu items for custom backgrounds.

I hope I am being clear. Sorry for the many entries here, but I'm just trying to figure this out as I go along.

Finally found what I was looking for. The added category, I had to scroll down toward the bottom to find the background option for that category. All is good now.

@Pitman33
Try to get familiar with how artwork is handled in Kodi.
Most of your questions get answered in the below links and they are not skin related questions:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Artwork
https://kodi.wiki/view/Artwork/Artist
https://kodi.wiki/view/Artwork/Album
https://kodi.wiki/view/Music_tagging#Fol..._Structure

Also, you should get familiar with the skin settings, which are all described here: https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Rapier#Skin_Settings

Black screen indicate wrong entries in the music database.
A black screen will always be on top of the default image.

There's is a tool which can help fix these wrong entries and many more things: https://kodi.wiki/view/Texture_Cache_Mai...ce_utility
Careful, as changes can't be reverted - use at your own risk Wink

This is a skin specific setting telling the skin the path to your library and local clear logo images.

You answer your own question.
The custom backgrounds in the backgrounds section are for regular categories - not custom categories.
Which means that multi image paths are for regular categories.
