Req Kodi on LG Web OS

I have the same issue, I have to delete those files manually in Dev manager from time to time.

I've checked into org.xmbc.kodi folder and I've found a core.3150 file that is 324.39 MB! But is dated 8/9/23 so it's quite old. I can delete this file without problems?

Try the build from post #473 in this thread. Also post #508 has some extra instructions in case Kodi still doesn’t start up when launched.

Can you please look on: #699
Maybe #700 also contains relevant information.

Thank you for this. It's great to see Kodi in action, although unfortunately, it's still in the alpha version. There are occasional issues with audio synchronization and audio passthrough is problematic as well. Additionally, some videos won't play. Are there any plans to include support for webOS 3 in future releases?

Despite these challenges, the interface operates swiftly and efficiently, outperforming all other video apps currently available. So it's disappointing that it's no longer being updated.

Question
Hi. I bought an 8k TV from LG and the specs show that the AV1 codec is also supported. Is the webOS version of Kodi stable enough? As far as I can see, only the unstable version is available at the moment. Can I watch 8k and AV1 videos without any problems?

Don't know about 8K but AV1 works well.

It's an early beta that's broken. So no, it's clearly not stable yet. Just use the default Jellyfin player for now.

Hi Forum
I have a LG 65" - Model 65QNED866QA  - firmware: 04.40.75 - webOS version: 7.4.0
Kodi on LG TV:              20.90.821
Kodi on Nvidia shields:   20.3.2 (10/01-2024) git:20240111-3f5db1b810

So instead of having my kodi as a App on a Nvidia Shields, I've tried installing it on my LG TV.  My normal setup is 3Shield - with central Management setup (2Fileservers + MySQL)
And I can easily install the Kodi (either through Homebrew or through webOS Dev Manager) but as soon as I add my files for my central Management setup (advancedsettings.xml and sources.xml) the Kodi App shows the start splash screen - and then just black screen.
These files are fresh grabbed of my working Shields, which have been a setup for several years, instead of MythTV - but as I remember I needed the first one to create and scan the files - but in this case I'm hoping to skip having 2units instead of just one, but also I'm properly moving to some smaller apartment later on - but not rigth now
On the LG I find this folder as: --> /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/applications/org.xbmc.kodi/.kodi/userdata/

I've tried adding the files like this:
  1. having a small test SMB-share where I can copy the files from share to Kodi folder, and then reboot the Kodi.
Here on my Nvidia-Shields a long press will give that menu - but I can't find the same options on my LG - (and a long press is not working)

  2. Uploaded the files through webOS Dev Manager - both with and without Kodi startet for the first time.
Without Kodi startet 1 time on TV - I've have to create the folders .kodi/userdata/ - but still the same issue
So If I remove the advancedsettings.xml - then my kodi is starting up - and I can see my folders unders Videos from my sources.xml - so I'm guessing that the So is the issue here that the Version LG is running is newer than the one on Shields - in version numbers 20.90 vs 20.3 - so I need to delete y database , and having my LG create the DB and afterwards adds the Shields afterwards?
Well I have a lot of films and series, so would like not should reset the database unless it's necessary - But in my mind - that would make sense if that's the solution, but would like to hear you out before I'm deleting the history or should I just use a norma backup of the SQL database, since on my MySQL I'm seeing 4 Databases after trying to start my LG TV:
+--------------------+
Database
+--------------------+
MyMusic82
MyMusic83
MyVideos121
MyVideos124
+--------------------+

Kodi should upgrade outdated databases. I have tried with a fresh mariadb setup and that works as expected. Try enabling debug logging and check the log if it has some clue. Also check the webOS dev manager in the debug tab for crash logs.

You can remap the context menu to some other button on the remote if long press does not work on your TV.

has anyone installed this kodi on a LG C8? I have a c8 and was considering trying this. the kodi wiki says it supports webos 4+ (C8 is 4.4.2) but somewhere on this thread I read that it works properly only with webos 5+?

if anyone has, would love to know how it works with DV MKV files? what are the negatives, bugs etc

also was wondering if there was any additional stress on the TV (for eg higher CPU usage or something like that) compared to using plex/emby as I would not want it to affect the tv.

TIA

@Skywalker2023 Latest beta 2 should work just fine with webOS 4 or later. You can easily install this version directly from webOS Devmode Managers list of available apps.
