Req Kodi on LG Web OS
#91
How can I press the "menu" button with the magic remote? I had FireTV with Kodi before and the menu button on the remote was really helpful.

https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Keymap_Editor

you can remap "red button" for example to open context menu

Thank you but I got same issue.

Try running this command:

Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/libwayland-egl.so.0 /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/applications/org.xbmc.kodi/lib/libwayland-egl.so.1

and then try to launch Kodi again and see if it works now.

it worked! thank you!

Don't worry too much about that. It is only the UI that is rendered at that resolution. Media will play back at its native resolution applying upscaling as needed

installed new nightly version but audio is still out of sync.
The issue isn't that is simply audio out of sync, if the problem was only this you could simply Set Audio delay to -275s to fix it, but when you turn on Kodi and delay is already setted the audio is however out of sync! You must try to stop and set again to fix the problem...

yes, that's true. doesn't rly matter. overall it is great experience

when you leave app and return to it -> its restarted and you have to start movie/show again. Is it possible to force kodi not to be killed in background?

I installed it on one of my lg's via the dev mod manager (great easy tool). After applying the additional command kodi works. Great to see it finally arriving on web is, very grateful for this.

Few questions:
1. Do bmdv structures/iso work (with simple menu structure support)? I can't fully test because currently forced to stream via UPnP server as source for library iso local folder (see next point). It currently doesn't always pick the correct ts file (but could be UPnP server side related).
2. Can i normally use smb to access shares on the NAS (windows machine) where i have my content stored. I get errors while trying to access content via smb (so no access). It could also be authorisation related but the same method works through my odroid n2 kodi box (and also another windows kodi box but that one is obvious).
3. Dolby Vision: Is this supported? When i rip my blurays i keep Dolby Vision next to hdr (so hybrid). I know DV is not supported on windows version and also not coreelec, but from a few pages back in this thread I understood DV works in this webos version, but its always hdr i get.

It surprises me that i also get pass through audio (passthrough is selected so i assume it works) on dts audio via (e)arc, my lg models don't have that HW capability, wonder how it works.

Shame my LG's are 2020 & 2021 models with 100mb nics, high throughput playback (80-90 mb/s) struggles somewhat, but may also be lg processor capability related. Possible to increase kodi playback buffer via advanced settings file?

ad 1.) they should work, but ymmv
ad 2.) yes, all usual kodi vfs/network protocols are working
ad 3.) yes, DV is supported insofar as your TV supports it

Interesting. Which tv models do you have? Are you sure you haven’t enabled Dolby transcoding of unsupported formats or is your receiver actually showing that’s it’s receiving a DTS signal?

I'm now testing on a 77gx6la, a 2020 model I think. The surprise is that with the same hdmi connection on windows based kodi (kodi passthrough) i don't get any sound with also message no audio from tv because DTS is not supported (this is how it is supposed to work, because apparently HW capability is lacking, only back since 2023 models). I have to switch off pass through/wasapi  and use direct sound driver for any sound.  With this web os version with starfish passthrough selected as driver I do get sound, alltough with Dolby Digital as input to the A/V processor. So there is obviously transcoding going on. I guess the passthrough starfish driver selection may not be not real bitstream passthrough at the moment?

P.S also best match selected in sound options, so no resampling between input and output.

Thank you for the info. This seems to confirm that you have transcoding enabled for any format that is not Dolby Digital (AC3) or Dolby Digital Plus (E-AC3).

Everything in the two above formats are played as pure passthrough with Atmos DD+ support as well and other formats are transcoded to DD 5.1.

You can try and turn off the “Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding” option and you should then not be getting any sound on that tv model due to it not supporting passthrough on DTS tracks etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

You are correct. On most TVs (only exception being the new 2023 models) DTS is not supported at all. There is only support for (E)AC3 from the hardware side. So in order to get multichannel output you need to use AC3 transcoding for any DTS or TrueHD formats

Installed latest nightly on my LG OLED65C38LA and it looks quite good so far - might save me from buying a Shield. Smile
Passthrough seems fine for (E)AC3, transcoding seems to be okay for DTS (although I had to manually switch audio streams back and forth to make the receiver recognize surround instead of stereo).

I've been wondering though - is it possible that the DTS passthrough option is not available for WebOS?
At least I couldn't find it yesterday and I'd like to test if DTS passthrough works with the 2023 C3 model.

LG only introduced DTS back into WebOS in the 2023 models which none of the people working on this currently have. So it's likely audio passthrough is restricted to the Dolby codecs as that's only what is possible on what the models they use.
