Sony Android TV - 4k files are downscaled
#1
When I play a 4k video file, the android played installed in my Sony TV downscales the video to 1080p.
I've verified this by connecting a keyboard and pressing Z.

Other video apps, like YouTube, Disney, Apple TV, Netflix, all play 4k content in 4k (for YouTube and Netflix, there are debug OSD that show the resolution).

Any idea how to fix it?

Can't edit -- I mean Kodi plays 4k downscaled to 1080p

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

The instructions are here... debug log (wiki)

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.
4.Upload the log to Kodi Paste Site manually or use the Kodi Logfile Uploader. (wiki) With either method post the link to the log back here.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file (wiki)

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs
Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Use the Kodi Paste Site. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum
Always read the Wiki, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Read/follow the forum rules.

Are you sure it's 1080p when playing the video and not just the GUI?

You didn't say which Sony TV, but the tl;dr for that thread is that for Google TV on the Sony A80J, Kodi does display 4K video as 4K but downscales 4K images, and you can't go by Kodi's info/debug screens to tell you what's happening.

The TV is a 2019 Sony Bravia XBR-55X950G running kernel version 4.9.125, Build BRAVIA_UR2_4K)UC-user 9 PTT1.190515.001.S104 650551
Kodi is the latest available on google play (19.3 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...n_US&gl=US)

When I press Z, while playing a 4k video, the On Screen overlay info shows that the source has been downsampled to 1080p

Again, that thread explains that you can't go by the Kodi screens, and it describes other ways to determine what's happening.
