To replicate the issue: Watch a movie on an Android device using upnp as source. Stop it after a few minutes. It won't resume where you left off.

My understanding was that the Trakt addon syncs watched progress of library media across devices. UPnP sources are not managed via the Kodi library as far as I know so perhaps this is why the addon is not acting in the way you expect it to?
