Android fire tv vs shield tv vs other boxes
#1
How would you rate your experience with using Kodi on Fire TV devices? would it be better to use an android box like SHIELD TV?

no doubt fireos is based on android but that doesn't mean anything. can i install android apps natively on fire tv? I do not believe

I was looking for an opinion based on the experience you have had using firetv and/or android box

Both are solid choices, assuming for Fire TV, it's the latest Cube 3 box. Both have ads in their UI's, but Fire TV's is really cluttered w/them. But, you can remap buttons on the remote to launch Kodi w/a button press.

edit:

re: "vs other boxes"
imo the first 2 mentioned are really the only ones worth talking about currently

there are low end knock offs made to be cheap but not good

beelink's "premier" top level box is as good as a 2nd gen firetv cube (practically identical hardware)

if anything, stay far away from any rockchip devices

i picked one at random from their site, might be the one youre talking about - https://www.homatics.com/products/box-r-4k-plus

arm mali-g31 mp2 release date Q1 2018 - https://gadgetversus.com/graphics-card/a...-mp2-specs

given that and the cloned firetv remote i would put this in the knock offs category

I finally gave this a shot, and it took 10 minutes total to remap 3 of the buttons to apps I actually use! So cool, thanks for linking to it. I get imense satisfaction clicking the Netflix button and having Kodi launch instead

still seems like a steep price for a mali g31-mp2 thats 5 years old, compared to the cube gen3's mali g52 and reduction in price (as low as $100 on sale, $125 otherwise)

even the gen2 has a amlogic 922 with a g52 - https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-t...tvcubegen2

i might be curious about the L1 widevine difference, cube gen3 specifically states "L1 v11" and its about the only time ive ever seen the v noted, not even sure what it means

homatics s905-x4 - https://gadgetversus.com/processor/amlogic-s905x4-specs

cube gen 3 specs - https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-t...-cube.html

heres a nice data set - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mali_(processor)

Good post , guess that is as near as you are going to get without an actual "kodi only" device. I just bought a Beelink NU59 , intending to run kodi from a usb , but it has 16gb ram and seems like a waste , will have to look for something with less ram. hahaha. I have FTV devices but the bloatware on the home screen sucks.

Hi which u59 did you get in terms of processor as I'm thinking of going the windows root to replace my ftv as I want hd audio pass through.
I was thinking of either the new n100 beelink or one with a 5500u Ryzen chip.
