Installing Kodi in Raspberry Pi Pico
#1
Hello, I am a new user here. I know a very little about kodi. I know, we can install codi in Raspberry Pi 4 and other versions of the full-fledged Raspberry Pis. But Raspberry Pi 4 is very expensive in my country. So, I have recently started using Raspberry Pi Pico. Here are the details about it:

I want to know one thing. Is it possible to use kodi in Raspberry Pi Pico? I intend to use my smartphone as a monitor for Raspberry Pi Pico and install codi in pico. Is that possible?

No, Kodi cannot be installed on the Pico.

It is not powerful enough nor have enough memory. It is a micro-controller, not a full computer.

Thank you. Is there any cheaper alternative to Raspberry Pi 4 where I can install Kodi?

I have moved this thread to the hardware section, a more appropriate location.

@bidrohini do a bit of research for yourself in this section - lots of recommendations and discussions are already here.

Several cheaper alternatives that will perform better.

1. S905X3/S905X4  boards from either ali express or hard kernel
2. chromecast 4k or fire tv stick

There are pro's and cons for each. If you don't need to st ream raw 4k rips a tiv stick like a chromecast or fire tv stick will work fine.

If you need to stream high bitrate 4k files you'll want to go with a board that has gigabite ethernet or a way to attach one via a hub.

Depending on your smart phone , u could Install kodi on your phone , instead of using it as a monitor, also its kodi not codi .

eerie how similar that looks to the HK1 RBOX that i purchased recently....

HK1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB-xellKeTc
Vontar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edgmYW9vp1U

its like they came from the same factory in china or something ... /sarcasm

anyway i like the HK1 w/coreelec and if the vontar is its twin i bet its good too

Yeah I think i'm gonna pick up either the HK1 or the Vontar for a birthday gift for my brother. Not many boxes can do av1. So in that way it's even better than a shield if you don't care about android stuff. I don't encode any of my rips with av1 because none of my other devices support it but it's a nice to have feature.

Check the specs on those two boxes. Looking on ebay , the more expensive Vontar that I saw listed has 4gb DDR3 ram . The HK1 has 4gb DDR4 ram.

Don't trust the specs from sellers when you buy these ah21x devices, (Vontar, HK1, Transpeed, MxIII)  My HK1 certainly is DDR3.  You might get 100Mb too, so buy from a vendor that you trust or offers good return policy.
