Creating my own Channel
#1
So I created my own channel through channel manager and selected it the path to pull from my entire library of movies and TV shows. Problem is, it's just playing things in alphabetical order starting with my movies (since I set that path first). Is there a way to make the channel play TV Shows (Any Episode) and Movies randomly? I noticed a thing for setting channel rules but it doesn't seem to work. I get a popup that says "Rules Configuration Invalid. Try again." Any help would be appreciated. Apologies if it is a stupid question, I am new to mucking about in Kodi.

Build a channel using Library Nodes or Smart Playlists...

If you select a path in the channel manager, PseudoTV Live will build from that path using "dumb" logic... The program sees is a bunch of files without context.

Select a path that is tailored, ie node or smart playlist.... PseudoTV Live has rules to follow (order, methods, sort, limits, filters, etc).

As I said, I am a bit of a noob at this. I am trying to create a smart playlist using Kodi, so I can put it into pseudoTV but the problem is. I want to use a mixed smart playlist and use only movies and TV shows in a random order, however, Mixed playlist seems to only pull from my music. I can't figure out how to use rules with the smart playlists to properly get it to pull from movies and TV shows. I tried Mixed, File, Do Not Contain, .mp3, but nothing showed up cause its only pulling music.

Read the readme.

I have been trying to get Mixed playlists working for a long time. I was told that You can't mix TV and Movies in the same channel. However, If you look at the Auto Tuned Sample Channels, you can certainly see there is mixed content.
I would think if a developer were to play around a bit with the Playlist editor in Kodi, so that it was possible to add Movies and TV and Music video to a mixed playlist we could get channels with all sorts of things, including previews, bumpers and commercials.
I would love to see the Playlist editor let you add you tube playlists, channels and videos also. But apparently this comes into STRMs, and no one here knows how to add them to playlists or kodi, if you look at the readme it says add the strm to kodi, derr. Real helpful. Oh and if you ask too many questions you get blocked so be careful.
I did have a play around with the Playlists and mixed content yesterday. It is possible to get it happening on a limited basis with alot of playing around with playlists.
If you are in doubt, make a backup of your kodi folder in Users/UserName/appdata/roaming and then play with playlists and try anything you like, If you bugger it up, just restore your original directory and you're all good.
Good Luck.

Create a smart playlist with your preferred TV shows random order.
Create another smart playlist with your preferred movies random order.
Go into channel manager, add both playlists to a channel, then rename the channel to your choice of name and preferred logo.
See if this works. I'm unsure if it'll play movies more often than the shows but both show up in one channel randomly.

@ Xoxez, Cant Add TV and Movie to the same channel, or so I thought, I'm sure I tried this long ago and it could not be done. Just tested it, and BOOM, Movie/TV/Movie/TV
Wow, this is one step closer to making PTVL Perfect. Now with the Channel Manager working Perfectly I can go make so wicked playlists to get some really good movie theatre like channels happening.

I have not been able to work out bumpers, commercials etc, I don't know if they are working properly or not as of yet, but I think If I make another couple of directories on my media drive, for commercials, trailers, and the like, I can add them to a playlist and were away.
Thanks heaps for the tip XOXEZ, My Channels are about to go to a whole new level.

Now, If only I could add a youtube playlist to a Kodi Playlist, everything would be perfect.

Cheers

Glad your movie/tv show channel works. For youtube I think youtube requires a workaround for API keys on your account but not sure about on pseudotv.

I am waiting on the fillers commercials bumpers update but I'm not sure when they're be available. Im assuming it won't arrive for a long time unfortunately.

However doing commercials in directories do work some of the time for me just shows up in the guide and it doesn't play after every show though. Bumpers won't play if under 15s so those won't work yet.

I couldnt figure out how to put bumpers or commercials in a smart playlist, as it needed it to be movies, tv shows or music to do so and not a directory unfortunately too. Not sure if this is possible to do.

At some point I had a playlist play something from another playlist in order with it's settings but the main channel played it after every show. I'm not sure why and forgot how it did that but if commercials could be in a playlist maybe I can have them played after every show.

Anyways whatever works works, but i'd be much more interested in this project once filler commercials and bumpers arrive as currently it seems like the other half of TV thats missing.

Make yourself a Smart Playlist for Example "Random TV", Make Its "Type" Episodes, "Find Items Where" Select TV Shows, Contains, then browse and select your TV Shows. Then set at the bottom, "Items Must Match" All Of The Rules, Limit To "no limit" Select Order to Random. and save That one.
Now Make Your "Random Movie", "Type" Movies "Find Items Where" Here I couldnt work out select all movies so I just selected year, greater than, 1900, then once again down the bottom "Items Must Match" All of the rules, "Limit To" No limit "Order by" Random and save that.
Now, got to your channel manager, Select Your Channel, Call IT whatever you like, then add paths, Video Playlists, And add your Random TV Playlist, Then Add another path, Add your Random Movie Playlist. Save That, Give your channel a pretty icon, save and exit, wait for PTVL to rebuild its channel list and in Theory, you should be away.
Good Luck.

Yep, you are right, You Tube needs the API Key, After some mucking around and a big learning curve, I sorted that out, I have 3 API keys now as Pseudo Loves to rebuild the channel list every 15 minutes and I have over 100 Channels, SO Constantly hitting you tube my API keys run out of data if I use it for too long, and then i have to switch out the api key or I get error after error after error while trying to watch.

Fillers and Bumpers, OMG, I have tried and tried to do something there, I thought of adding another directory, so I added a Trailers Directory, added it to the library as Movies and told it to use local info only, but it just added to the movies and I could not select them separate.
There is an option when you are adding a path to the playlist to add files or paths, but that doesn't seem to work. Perhaps you could ask Lunatixz on that one, (he doesn't like me so he wont answer my questions, don't know why? and after I donated to the project and all, you try and help people and... oh well, that's my problem I guess, I digress)

I am going to try making a youtube playlist with bumpers, oone with commercials, one with trailers, then add them as seperate paths to see if I can get around it that way. It is painful however, due to the lack of a random feature and no matter what i try i can't figure out STRM files, the wiki is no help at all, and all the clever users here think you are an idiot if you ask them how to do something and seem to get angry with you. I digress again, lol.

So, In short If Kodi could allow you to add "Extra Media" perhaps this could be incorporated into PseudoTV Live at some stage. I guess this could be a feature request, but It would probably be way down the to do list.

Perhaps also In a future build the could allow us to add a youtube playlist to Kodi Playlist, Then adding a Kodi Playlist to PTVL would give you access to more features again.

Anywhay, who knows what the future holds, Cheers, Oz.
