Scraping movies on startup /update library not working
#1
Hi folks,

I know this has been discussed before and I did alot of reading but none of the fixes have worked for me.  I have Kodi set to 'Update Library on Startup'.  When I add a new movie to my 'movies' folder on the NAS and start Kodi, I see a pop-up momentarily saying something like "Updating movies using..." but the movie is not added to my library.  If I go into the library/movies category and do a manual update it is not added either.  I know it is not an issue with the filename because I can go to the file location and manually "scan to library" and it is scraped properly and then appears in the library.

I have tried:
Delete all my sources and recreated, making sure I use SMB://
Make sure that "use video tags" was not set to true
Tried Universal Movie Scraper, The Movie Database and TMDB Movies (all latest versions and set to not use IMDB)
Did a fresh install of Kodi with no additional addons and completely rescanned library; thankfully I don't have alot of content Smile

TV shows scrape fine, both on startup and manually.

Here is the link to my log file.

If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.  I appreciate any help you all can give.

Thanks,
Ken

The only item I found in your log that does not scrape is Looney Tunes...
No information found for item 'smb://NAS/KIDS_STUFF/Kids Shows/Looney Tunes (1929)/', it won't be added to the library.

Is this what you are referring to? Please provide the link for the show at TMDB.
I don't see any movie sources being scanned.

Hi Karellen,

Thanks for replying.  The Looney Tunes (1929) TV show doesn't have any info on TMDB, so I am not scraping that one now.  This is not what I am referring to, however.  Once this is sorted, I will install the TV Maze addon and scrape it with that.  as far as the 2 movies I am testing with, here are the links and the file names on my NAS:

Link:
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)
Filename:
Rebel.Moon.Part.One.A.Child.of.Fire.2023.mp4

Link:
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)
Filename:
rebel-moon-part-two-the-scargiver-2024.mkv

Thanks,
Ken

Ok, thanks. I see them at the bottom of the log.
Can you update your scraper to v3.0.1 and try again?
Also, can you change the name of the files/folder so Kodi sees these as new additions, instead of the same movie being scraped again.

I went ahead and installed some addons (Gismeteo, Weather Fanart Multi pack, Universal Movie Scraper, TV Maze scraper, YouTube, UpNext and Arctic Zephyr Reloaded skin).  The first time I ran the library update since then was with Universal Movie scraper:

Log here

I then switched back to the Movie Database Python scraper and ran the update again:

That log is here

The filename I switched to Rebel-Moon-Part-One-A-Child-of-Fire-2023.mp4 (dashed instead of dots).

Thanks,
Ken

I can't find that in your log at all.

That is bizarre.  I have 2 sources set as movies ("Kids Movies" & "Our Movies").  Is it possible it is failing on the 1st source and then never gets to the second one (where the file is located)?

I can see your tv show source... smb://NAS/Our_TV/Our Shows
But it makes me wonder which folder is your Source - is it "Our_TV" or is it "Our Shows"?

But no sign of any movie folder.

Can you provide me your MyVideos131 database?

Thanks, I received the database.

Here are the sources I see in your database...

I can see nothing wrong with these sources and their settings.

Your source smb://NAS/Movies/Our Movies/ has no files listed against it, which is strange because Kodi should scan the folder structure and add the list of files to the database, regardless of whether they are in the library or not.
I cannot see Rebel Moon in your database. Did you do something between your first log and second log to clear out the database?

I note you are using Android. There is another thread detailing a similar problem, and like the other thread this has also stumped me...

Are you able to install on Windows pc and scrape your library?

That is strange.  The "Our Movies" source has 121 items in it.  I will install on my Windows PC and see if it works there.  I will update tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help.

LOL, I could not wait till tomorrow.

I installed on my PC and actually copied the files from my .kodi (android install) to my %AppData%\Roaming\Kodi folder.  Dropped the test file into my Movies folder; fired up Kodi and it got picked up and scraped into the Library.  Just to be sure, I quit Kodi; dropped the sequel in and fired up again.  Scraped, no problem Smile

Definitely seems to be isolated to the Android release.  Not sure if it is the scraper or Kodi itself but since no movie scrapers seem to work in Android, my money is on Kodi. I will double check, but I believe my Shield has the latest firmware installed.  I will report back if not.

BTW, is there a difference between the Google Playstore release and the one posted on the Kodi site?  I have the Playstore release running on my Shield right now. I figure I can set it to auto-update that way.  I had the other running on my system but noticed the same scraping issue.

I came across this thread and tried adding the following to my advancedsettings.xml file as recommended there:

xml::
<advancedsettings version="1.0">
<videolibrary>
<usefasthash>false</usefasthash>
</videolibrary>
</advancedsettings>

Movies scanned on startup like they should.  I did notice that TV Show scan took longer.  Is there a way to apply this to only the Movies sources?

Thanks,
Ken

Unfortunately not. It is a global setting.
So disabling the Hash allowed the movies to scan? Strange.

Yes, it is odd, but I am glad it is working.  It does seem to point to an issue with Android.  As time permits, I may test on another android device or maybe an emulator.  Thanks so much for your help!
